Sightron 27008 vs. NF 15-55 competition?

If I could get either a Sightron 27008 or a NF 15-55 competition for essentially the same price, which would you choose? It would likely go on a Stiller 2500x benchrest rifle but, depending on which I like better, I could swap it with my golden eagle for f class.

I would also be interested in alternative choices that people have experience with.

They are both good scopes, but you need to figure some things out mainly the Reticle!

The Sightron has slightly more elevation at 70 MOA. The NF has 55 MOA of elevation.

Now reticles.. The Sightron you picked comes with a Target dot only. The NF has 4 different reticles available.

I would be getting a similar reticle...the CTR-2. I am most interested in opinions on, price being the same, which scope is better. It will likely go on the new RFBR rifle I'm having built so internal adjustment isn't too critical.

overall then, I would most likely go with the Nightforce. I have a Sightron SIII 6-24x50 and it is excellent except can be a pain to adjust parallax. The NF's my friends have i have used and I loved them.

Thanks for replying. I can actually get the NF about $100 cheaper so, unless others have strongly differing opinions, I will probably go that route.

A couple weeks ago 3 of us spent an afternoon comparing my Sightron 27008 - SVSSED1050X60TD to my buddies NF 15-55 competition. We intentionally picked midafternoon to test when the sun was beating down on the backers causing pretty good mirage. After reviewing multiple times both scopes view, with the existing mirage, the consensus pretty much was no noticeable difference, or advantage, in view of either scopes at 50yds. Not a real scientific test, just a good ole boy test.
Agreeing with 6MMsteve the Sightron SVSSED with the fine focus is pretty amazing. Our winter indoor range is only 50'. The big selling point the Sightron had for me was the parallax went from 10yds. to infinity. I believe the NF 15-55 competition only goes down to 25yds.

Fred, I prefer the High Master. Both are great for RF BR, but for whatever reason I have more of a problem with eye relief with the 60X. I do have the beginnings of dry macular degeneration. I do not have the knowledge of optics as you and Denys and may not be setting mine up right. My scopes do not hinder my scores, just lack of any practice and tuning.

And for benchrest 50 yard only which reticle is popular ?

I have the same problem, probably why they came up with the "fine" adjustment knob.

Butch, the 60x52 eye relief is 75-80mm and the 48x52HM eye relief is 66-81mm. In both cases the range of eye relief is due to the eyepiece diopter adjustment range of ±2 diopters. I would prefer the smaller change in eye relief of 1.25mm per diopter of the 60x52 versus 3.75mm per diopter of the 48x52HM but, I fortunately do not yet have dry MD to manage.

Thanks Fred. I really love the scopes!

I shoot a pair of the SVED 10x50x60 Sightrons and a NF Competition. The Sightron has a larger FOV , brighter image at times, and the dual parllex knobs that I love. But I find out at 500yds and sometimes 400 yards I struggle to see 6mm bullet holes at 77 years old. The extra 5x in the NF helps seeing holes at 500. Both very good scopes. So the 6bra gets the NF and the 6ppc the Sightron. Choose what will work for your needs. I will say the Sightrons have been 100% perfect in POI and repeatability over three seasons.

Just to update everyone, I was looking for opinions for an ARA UL gun that is being built. I just bought a new ARA factory gun and, I bought the S3 10-50 x 60 with the target dot to try on it. I almost bought the NF benchrest for it but, I wanted the side focus. I still need a scope for my ARA UL gun that is coming and, depending on my opinion of the S3, I will make a decision on which scope to put on the UL gun. It could be another S3, the SV or the NF Comp. I will let you all know what I think of the S3 and where I'm going from there.
