Sightron 10-50x60ED vs 45x45 CompED

FWIW - mirage can be an issue with a fixed power scope. I have one F-TR rifle that wears a 36X IOR-Valdada BR scope, which I put on it so as to make the weight limit with the rifle. I had shot this rifle out to 600 yd for a couple years and never noticed any real issue. However, during a recent practice session, we had sufficient mirage that I found myself wishing for variable magnification, so I could turn it down. I can imagine in a warmer, more humid climate, I would have noticed it immediately, especially if shooting at 1000 yd, which is something I haven't done in a while. Although I absolutely love the Schott glass and reticle on the IOR -Valdada fixed 36X scope, I probably would not put a fixed power scope on an F-TR rifle again, having seen what even moderate mirage can do to the sight picture at only 600 yd. YMMV.

Shooting mid range here in NC during hot, humid summers I've not had a problem around 40X in our typical heavy mirage. I'm more concerned 36X resolving the target aiming point sufficiently, how was that aspect for you?

I've recently used a rifle in a 3x20@600 yd match that wears an 8-32x56 NXS scope, and done several practice targets at 600 yd with the Valdada fixed 36X scope. I did not have any difficulty with either scope holding halfway between the "10" and "X" rings, maybe even a bit tighter, although whether I can actually shoot any tighter than that at 600 yd is questionable. The mirage in those situations was minimal, except for the last outing with the Valdada, where I was wishing I could turn the mag down. Again, I did not find the magnification of 32X (NF scope) or the Valdada (36X) to be limiting with respect to holding ~1/8th minute on the target face. Of course, everyone's eyes are different, but for me personally, 30-36X is sufficient to easily resolve the "X" and "10" rings at 600 yd when the mirage is relatively mild, and my vision is not all that great.

Myself and 2 other f class competitors bought the SVSSED10-50×60mmMoah from LanceXXX. Love the scope's brightness, clarity, and especially coarse, fine parallax adjustment. Have not tested the 36x or 45x ED scope.
