FWIW - mirage can be an issue with a fixed power scope. I have one F-TR rifle that wears a 36X IOR-Valdada BR scope, which I put on it so as to make the weight limit with the rifle. I had shot this rifle out to 600 yd for a couple years and never noticed any real issue. However, during a recent practice session, we had sufficient mirage that I found myself wishing for variable magnification, so I could turn it down. I can imagine in a warmer, more humid climate, I would have noticed it immediately, especially if shooting at 1000 yd, which is something I haven't done in a while. Although I absolutely love the Schott glass and reticle on the IOR -Valdada fixed 36X scope, I probably would not put a fixed power scope on an F-TR rifle again, having seen what even moderate mirage can do to the sight picture at only 600 yd. YMMV.
Shooting mid range here in NC during hot, humid summers I've not had a problem around 40X in our typical heavy mirage. I'm more concerned 36X resolving the target aiming point sufficiently, how was that aspect for you?
