Sightron 10-50x60ED vs 45x45 CompED

I love Sightron scopes, the optics suit my vision quite well. Currently I have the SVSS 10-50 ED on my Ftr rifle, and it is a great scope. Soon I will be changing the barrel and stock and don't see how I can make weight afterwards. Since I always run this in the 42-45X range anyway, I'm considering switching to the fixed 45X ED scope to save a lot of weight, and my concern is if the 45mm objective will lead to a sacrifice in optical quality. Anybody have experience looking through both of these?

I have a 45x45 and it is a very good scope. I have looked through a SVSS10x50 and it is little better scope. 45x45 Mainly a bit darker image. Just really not a fair comparison. 30 mmm tube vs. 34. More objective lens. I see through mirage better with 45x45 with ED glass than older scopes with no ED glass. I am an Open shooter so 10x50 will be my Christmas present. Check with Lancexxx on this site before you buy any Sightron.

Why is comparing a 34mm tube to a 30mm tube "just really not a fair comparison?" Inquisitive minds want to know.
I also mentioned the objective and in my mind I meant 30mm with 45 objective vs. 34mm with 60mm objective. I don't know about your eyes but mine an see the difference.

Yes, the exit pupil characterizes the difference in objective and power. But with fewer lens does this help the 45x make up that difference? I know it's difficult to provide a quantifiable answer. For comparison the Golden Eagle was unsuitable to me.

As is for many it appears.. the one i had was dark..

Ive been looking at this switch for the same reasons, my only hold back has been reticle options. Ive been meaning to message them to see if it can be changed out.

The optical quality was not suitable for my eyes to aim clearly. Vortex worked to make it right but just a no go. I'm one of the few who have not liked it.
I went GE on two Open Rifles , great Scope, like you my Old Eyes where not Happy.
I have three Sightron's now and not looking back.
One of my Shooting Pal's looked thru my 10-50X60 ,Called LanceXXX , end of Story.

Yesterday I had a chance to compare the scopes at 300yd. The 45X was brighter and sharper image than my variable! At Butner 600yd the owner had challenges with mirage being locked into 45X. I frequently shoot at 40X as a magnification that looks best based on many environmental conditions. So I will evaluate my variable at 35X to help decide on going with the 36 vs 45 fixed power.

I have two of the 45x's and been thinking of trying the 10-50 ED version. Interesting you found the 45 brighter. Guess I'll be keeping them. Only scopes I've seen brighter and clearer are the March Highmasters. I prefer the 45x to the NF's comps I've looked through.

Typically, a fixed scope is better than a variable of the same power. Usually the variable scope looses clarity and light at its maximum setting. I have several Golden Eagles, two 36 Weavers and two 45 Leupolds. When using the Golden Eagles, I usually am forced to dial the power down in order to obtain clarity.

I have 2 of the 10-50 EDs and have been thinking about trying the 45x version! However, they don't have the sweet, sweet parallax adjustment on them. Absolutely worth the price of admission. I figure if I needed to save 1.5lbs, I'd still get one, though.

FWIW - mirage can be an issue with a fixed power scope. I have one F-TR rifle that wears a 36X IOR-Valdada BR scope, which I put on it so as to make the weight limit with the rifle. I had shot this rifle out to 600 yd for a couple years and never noticed any real issue. However, during a recent practice session, we had sufficient mirage that I found myself wishing for variable magnification, so I could turn it down. I can imagine in a warmer, more humid climate, I would have noticed it immediately, especially if shooting at 1000 yd, which is something I haven't done in a while. Although I absolutely love the Schott glass and reticle on the IOR -Valdada fixed 36X scope, I probably would not put a fixed power scope on an F-TR rifle again, having seen what even moderate mirage can do to the sight picture at only 600 yd. YMMV.
