Sightron 10-50x60 scope ring height

I know this subject has been beaten to death, but I can't find the specific answer I am looking for.

I just purchased a Sightron 10-50x60 but don't have it in hand yet. I would like to know what height rings I will need if I am using weaver bases. All the setups I have found were using picatinny/1piece rails.

I wanted to use Burris signature zee rings, but by my math they will not be tall enough. Has anyone tried to know if this will work or not? Other options?

I plan on switching this scope around on different rifles for load development and don't want to get picatinny/1-piece rails for all of them. (Savage actions with varmint weight barrels)

Thanks,
Luke

High (#420587) have lots of clearance on my Savage PTA Action with a Shilen varmint weight barrel.

Thanks for the info. Just to be clear you both were using standard 2-piece weaver bases and high #420587 rings?

Thanks,
Luke

Luke, I don't know if this will be of any help to you or not, but I mounted a Nightforce 12x42x56 on a Savage M12 LRPV . I used Burris two piece bases and Sig Zee high rings initially. The front scope bell cleared the barrel with enough clearance that I could see light between the bbl and the scope. I know most would say this is OK but it made me a little nervous so I bought and installed Burris Sig Zee extra highs. Maybe you should wait until you have the scope in hand before you order the rings so you can measure for the ring height, this is what I do now and it's saved me some bucks and aggravation. Ron

Ron, Thanks for the reply. I don't have a problem waiting until I have the scope in hand, but I find conflicting information on the height of the rings.

Burris website lists the height of the extra high rings at 1.18" from the top of the base to the center of the rings, midway lists them as 1.02". By my math that is the difference between a 1/8" clearance and having the scope hit the barrel. (but I was never great at math :D)

Then I find online reports that the high rings work for some people, like BikeEffects and guidom posted above.

Your experience with the Nightforce makes me think I at least need the extra high rings, or maybe it can't even be done without a rail?

I was hoping to get firsthand info from people who have done it, since I am not sure of the actual height of the rings.

Thanks,
Luke

I have often been confused by seemingly conflicting reports and data on ring height so this is the method I generally use to determine ring height, not high tech but it seems to work
http://www.brownells.com/UserDocs/Miscellaneous/0006_07%20Instructions.pdf . Anyway I hope this helps. Ron

I had to use extra high with a heavy varmint barrel on a Remington action with the 60mm objective. I use high with the NF BR scopes. I have pictinny rails on everything.

Good luck, the bases play such a key role it's hard to tell without having in hand.

Update in case anyone else was wondering the same thing.

I purchased Burris Signature Zee Extra-High rings and mounted on a Savage model 12 with factory weaver style bases. With a Shilen varmint weight barrel I have .175" clearance between the scope and barrel without the scope caps. (the scope caps will fit)

According to Burris website the high rings are .250 shorter than the extra-high rings and thus would not have worked.

Hope this helps,
Luke
