Sighting in distace .22 LR

My best recommendation is to sight in a .22 LR at the distance that you are generally shooting. Everyone has a theory as to why they sight in at certain distances.
I personally sight in all my .22's in at 3/4" of an inch high at 25 yards and this is why.
At this trajectory I am zero at 75 yards and 4" low at 100 yards.
This way from 20 to 100 yards you can basically hold on the target at all ranges. This has worked great for me with hunting most game.
Let's face the fact that a .22 can certainly shoot further distances that 100 yards, but how many time does this actually happen.
I don't look at trajectory charts, but this is just my experience in shooting at different ranges.

I intend to shoot my Vudoo at 200m. So I ran the numbers through a ballistics program and came up with this. Your numbers are very close, but dependent on the ammo you are shooting, it could be quite a bit different. I shot SK Standard Plus for my velocities.

Sight all my 22 RF in at 50yd. just to be consistent, run a decent mil or moa scope that can be dialed or use reticle for hold overs. As mentioned choice of ammo will have an affect on trajectory and accuracy. Table above looks very close to my results with SK SP. 22 RF rifles are picky about what you feed them to obtain best results, just have to experiment with different ones to see what your rifle likes. Lube used on 22 rf rounds varies from brand to brand and can affect poi when changing between brands.

Bronco302 and skoty, have pretty much summed it up, for ME, too !
50 yard Zero and "Dial up" my MOA scope for any longer shots at, Sage Rats !
35 / 40 yds is, the average range of, Rats, but I can pop a few off at, 80-100 yards if not too,.. Windy !
I always sight in for whatever ammo that, I want to use and DON'T change for, a while as, the POI will be a tad different with, EVERY type of ammo ! For Varmints at, 200 Yards,.. I GOT a .22-250 Rem,. for THAT !

I use a 50 yard zero on 22LR. It gives a flat trajectory and is usually within 1" of the LOS to that range. Beyond that range, just hold over at the appropriate height.
Only used for punching holes in paper, but should be fine for hunting small critters as it is setup.

It's been years since I used a 22 LR for hunting. Mostly it was for squirrel hunting and distances were 50 yards and under so I sighted in zero at 50 yards. I found that standard velocity CCI, 40 grain bullets were extremely accurate, capable of making head shots (to reduce meat damage) off shooting sticks. Rabbits were the same proposition - not difficult to drop at range 50 yards and under. The 50 yards sight in seem to work quite well for this application.

Tried my luck many years ago with the 22 LR on ground hogs using High Velocity 40 grain hollow points. Didn't work well for me unless I could made a precise brain shot. Therefore I limited my attempts to a max range of about 50 yards in order to make a precise killing shot. If the shot hit the body, most of the time they made into their hole, just not enough power to anchor these tough animals with a body shot. If the head shot placement was not precise, the a shot could hit the jaw condemning the animal to a slow and painful death - not my cup of tea.

I know, a ton of guys are going to say that they shot a million ground hogs with the 22 LR's at 100 yards+ and that's great. I just was not a good enough shot to routinely to make humane kills unless the distance was 50 yards and under and had a clear profile shot.

So with the limitations of the 22 LR and me, I found that 50 yards sight in work well for me for hunting applications.
