Sightin' in for deer!

It's time for that once a year trip to the range to sight in for first day of Pennsy deer! :o ::) :P :-\ :'(

The brass round and the split round have a 30-06 headstamp. The other is a 300 WinMag.

Don't think the '06s work too well in the mag chamber.

Reminds me of my buddy checking is scope prior to a sheep hunt. He fired one of his son's .264 Win rounds in his .300WM. Bullet hit Dirt about 25yds. in front of muzzle. Happens to the best of us.

Did you do that or did you find it?

I'm a volunteer trash can dumper at the range. Found it and a load of fired 300 WM and '06 in the bottom of the can. I dumped it this past Sunday evening so it had to have happened since then. Last week or so, the magnum boys have been hard at it, burning out throats. I watched a father-son duo pump 20 rounds through a 7mm rem-mag in about fifteen minutes. The son grabbed the barrel to put it back in the case. Good thing he was quick with the other hand. He grabbed the buttstock before it hit the ground. ;D

It's called the orange scourge at the local range. Saw a father son combo blow a hole in a berm at the 50 yard line because they were about 3 feet below their target. Every shot the kid took that hit the dirt, the father would adjust the elevation on the scope by a click of 2. After about 5 boxes of slugs, the kid told his dad he didn't want to shoot it anymore.

I've been hunting and shooting for 45 years and consider myself very safety conscience - however - I once chambered a 222 in one of my 223's. Fortunately it never fired. I had taken both rifles and ammo to the range that day and I was distracted. While that was the only time I ever did something like that, I learned a valuable lesson - anyone can make a mistake no matter how experienced they are if you loose focus.

So when I'm an the rifle or pistol range I tried to clear my head of all non shooting thoughts. I also apply this principle when I'm reloading and have developed a check system to minimize the chance of a mistake.

I'm always on "alert". It's enough time and effort to keep your own bench, ammunition, firearm, etc. in proper safety check for myself and everyone around me.

And, I usually take necessary precautions to see what's going on before I get too situated with my own set-up by studying those who are next to me at the range. Unfortunately, I don't trust others around me to be as diligent as I am. Therefore, I'm always keenly observing (without meddling unless necessary) to reasonably ensure I won't be one of their casualties as well as for their own sake too.

I have the same. I both point and read aloud load data, powder can label and powder dispenser setting.

Sounds silly, but my reloading is constricted to the odd hours I can find time off from family life and I'm often dead tired. It has stopped at least one major mistake from happening.

I NEVER take load data off memory.
