I suggest that you add a sub base under the original base since my experience has been that recoil will move things around too much. (My first rest was one like yours.)

Well, I can just remove the leveling feet, and replace them with long screws going through holes drilled clean through my benchtop. That ought to stop it moving around too much. ;) Then I just switch both elevation and azimuth adjustments to the rear bag. I've been thinking of making a spacer platform for underneath the rear bag, with three pointed leveling screws, one of which will serve as the fine tune for elevation. And I can simply use the screws just now appropriated from the front rest.

Brian;

Glad you like the idea.

I suspect the sideways force component could be inconsequential considering how positively the rifle is held down onto the bipod. In any case, I have not noticed any evidence of hop in any direction.

In case I failed to make this clear, the sling is mounted parade-fashion, being attached to the front and rear sling lugs, and hanging just low enough to fully support the elbow just clear of the supporting surface. In order to ride the rear bag better, it may help to reposition the rear lug a bit forward of its normal position

I do take a bit of care to get the elbow centered, but this is problematic due to a broken left humerus that was complicated by accompanying shoulder joint damage. For example, when shooting prone slung, I cannot get my elbow centered below the forearm; the best I can manage is about 30 degrees from vertical. This technique helps alleviate those consequences.

FWIW, an Army MTU Instructor once told me the Army is/was teaching this to precision shooters. The accuracy of this claim is not for certain.

IMHO, I have a few ideas about bag riding, recoil, and stocks.

I think that the bottom of the forend, the bottom of the butt stock, and the bore axis should be aligned parallel; and that the stock comb should raise toward the rear with (if possible) the top of the butt pad rising slightly above the extended bore axis.

I'll have to cobble one together for one of my Savages to figure how well these things combine.
