sight height ?

I would like to know how I can find sight so I can plug info in to a ballistics calculator. I feel dumb for asking for this info it something I should know

1) Measure the diameter of your scope's maintube and divide that by 2.
2) Measure the diameter of your rifle's bolt (assuming it's a bolt action) and divide that by 2.
3) Measure the distance between the top of the bolt and the bottom of the scope. 4) Add those three numbers to get the distance between the center of your bore and the center of your scope.

...or just take a ruler / tape measure and eye-ball it from the centerline of the scope tube (hint: most scope rings offer a convenient measuring point) to the centerline of the action (hint: the gas vent hole on most bolt actions is in about the right spot), and you'll be close enough. If you play with the numbers in a ballistics program, you'll find that getting closer than 1/4" really isn't necessary - environmental variables will cause more error than that.

At the very front of your scope, measure the OD of the scope and barrel (in line with the front of the scope) with your dial or digital calipers, then use the bottom of your calipers like a depth mic. and measure from the top of the front of the scope to the barrel. From that measurement, subtract half the diameter of the scope, and add half the diameter of the barrel.
