SIG RM400 TREAD

I'm really thinking about getting SIG RM400 TREAD for modern military. I like to compete against my son, but I'm not stupid he would kill me in Air. I was looking at this, and it looks like a good out of the box, and ambidextrous, so that lefty son can use it. I love shooting, but pretty much quit after my accident, but watching my son competing really got me thinking about giving it a go again. It would be an honor to get good enough for us to both be on a team together. So this is my intro AR gun, give me your take on it. Thanks

Paula

I have the original m400 they made before the tread to bid on getting the contract for the military.... I haven't had a problem with it... It is properly gassed , the trigger got replaced because it was gritty , not uncommon.... I did put a BCM BCG in it and I shoot it whenever I want but haven't put a ton of rounds through it... It does shoot straight and as good as my blind butt can shoot the iron sights , I can't say that about my other m16s... I have nothing bad to say about it but my m400 was built by Sig before the tread...

BUT , if I was going to compete I would try and find one built for competition... These guns or any m16 platform isn't exactly built for super accuracy... The Colt's are what all of them are compared to so a Colt would be a good start but good luck finding one right now... Once again I don't think you would go wrong with it but like any other one alot of it in my opinion would have to be replaced to compete seriously so you might want to ask around and see what people doing it now are using , it won't be cheap... But there's no sense not getting what you need to start with...

The old "Buy once / Cry once." Decide what level of accuracy you desire and calculate the time, effort and wherewithal needed to achieve - then purchase accordingly.
One thing I learned about myself and I was too long learning, was having big mental plans and the energy and time were not in line.
There is a semi casual pistol match at end of month. I planned on doing two a days, indoors, heated at 50', night dry firing to try and recoup what I've let lie fallow for 5 yrs. I ain't done nothing yet.... But that is me. Obviously a lack of the fire in the belly for a halfway satisfying outing. That and 50 mile rd trip,30 shots for $30 entry even w a free hat. Kinda rich for my blood.
