Not really - if someone was thinking of ditching the Kestrel (where you take magnetic reading and manually adjust) or Phone App (which gives you true north) for these then they are going to miss small targets at distance. .2 mills doesnt sound like a lot but its 8 inches of elevation at 1000 yards where I generally shoot. Maybe not an issue for hunting since its at shorter distances, but on longer range PRS or sniper matches, doesnt give a ton of confidence if they dont use true north (which is what the spinning of the earth is based on).Man, that is deep into the weeds.
A real compass points to Magnetic North since it is dependent on the magnetic field (which moves around). The declination then lets you adjust to True North which is the norther most axis on which the earth spins. It's important for Coriolis Effect because it doesnt spin related to magnetic north but the axis of the earth. The compass on your phone for example, lets you chose either option. If you have true north selected, it will adjust for whatever declination is wherever the phone is located. Not able to answer your question,BUT doesn’t a compass read magnetic north and not true north. As a sidenote I have a compass that reads south as north. Wasn’t always like that. Swapped directions about 5 years ago. Didn’t throw it away but can’t find it.
