Sig Cross questions…

A buddy talked me out of my 6 Creedmoor and I thought I’d just build a lighter version. Rebarreling a Sig Cross would be an option for a lighter version, think 18-20” #3 profile, maybe #4 if I thought the 3 wouldn’t look right. I’ve learned they have a barrel nut and sleeve but I can’t find it anything about removal. Can you just clamp the barrel & twist the barrel nut off (looks like AR10 barrel nut)?

Second group questions on the sleeve, can you get the sleeve off the factory barrel to reuse and just run a shouldered barrel onto the sleeve? Can you buy the sleeves? I don’t have a mill for the pin or the time to make a sleeve maybe another day. Anyone know the tenon specs? I can measure but it’s not metric, extractor relief or anything funky with it, right?

Just trying to assess what I might be getting myself into before buying one and learning a lesson that I really don’t want to mess with it and just build another 6 when time/parts come.

The barrel, with extension, is held on with an AR barrel nut. You have to remove the scope base and the bits for the bolt stop before removing the tube. Holding the receiver while removing the barrel nut can be a bit challenging. As far as the barrel extension it's held on with a jamb nut. Savage style. I think there maybe a box wrench that fits the jamb nut but I haven't investigated that. I made my own tool. There are no extensions offered to the public. I have some but they go with barrels. As far as reducing the weight. There is not much to get. A few ounces is all. I rebarreled my 6.5 CM with a left over light weight AR barrel. I didn't save any weight, it just shot better.

I rebarreled my Cross with a Bartlein carbon fiber 20" barrel chambered in 6XC. I shouldered the barrel and eliminated the nut. I would sell it if you are interested. I have too many rifles, according to my bookeeper.
Very generous offer Walt. I appreciate it but no XC’s over here and don’t want a new cartridge. Thank you though.

No one has said anything that scares me away but still undecided if I want to mess with it. I should qualify my “lighter” comment. The current rifle that my buddy talked me out of is just under 10lbs (including suppressor and scope) so I meant lighter compared to that not further lightening up the Sig, it’s already light. ;)

Thanks.

Schnee’s offers Carbon Six prefits. They use your extension I believe. They’ve been saying for awhile that they will have extensions available someday but as far as I know they still don’t have a source yet. I believe they have a YouTube video out there that shows the process to change out the barrel. I’ve watched it but don’t have a link right at the moment.
