SIG 556

Has anyone heard anything comparative between the SIG 556 and standard AR style receiver and bolt configurations. I just saw one come in at work today for the first time and the bolt system looks completely different from what I expect out of an AR "style" gun. I bet this thing is alot more reliable. Anyone got one of these?

Actually, no.

But I have to pose a question.

I'm not sure how in the hell you expect this new whiz bang bolt and assembly to be much more reliable than a properly maintained "AR type" system?

If you want an AK, go buy one. If you want a SIG AK, you're in business with this one.

I don't get how this "new system" is better than any of the current rifle operating systems used for the last 50 years except for the name stamped on it and the caliber. Wow, Sig took an AK operating system and chambered it for 5.56!

Give me a break. If you don't properly maintain any weapon system, it isn't going to work no matter how much you pay for it. And as near as I can tell, the AR has been running for right at 50 years since it was originally designed by Eugene Stoner. The AK has been running for that long since it was designed by Comrade Kalashnikov.

Jeez, can we please get a grip? Mechanics and physics are still just mechanics and physics.

Well the AK system is cleaner and can handle more dirt and grime build up. Though I don;t own an AK, everything I have read and heard from experienced smith's and shooters alike say the gas system on the AR is far less reliable than the AK style system. I mean the AK is unarguably the most popular and widely used, widely abused firearm in history..well since 1947
