Sierra Tipped Match King Bullets

My take on these new bullets is that they should help with long range shooting......meaning 1,000yds. The review I read said that 69's should "fly" like 77's and the 77's will work like the 80's. If that holds true, that will be good news for long range shooters shooting mag fed rifles.
In 30 caliber, the 168's will go like the 175's so you'll be able to shoot 168's at 1,000. The 175's will act like a heavier bullet as well.
So I guess it could be said that the farther out you go, the more you may benefit from these new tipped bullets.

They off better BC vs the SMK. I still don't see the justification to pay the extremely high asking price over Hornady Amax bullets.

For .223, I am completely satisfied with 77smk and 77BTHP. I can hit 12" steel at 800yds with my AR using 77smk or 75BTHP with 23.8g 8208XBR. Picked up 1000 Nosler 77CC's to test and see if they perform the same as the 77smk's. If they do I will be switching to the 77cc's permanently as they are much cheaper than the 77smk's.

Are your comments based upon economic considerations or performance considerations? Over the years, I've heard and seen comments made (similar to the above) on a new product (in this case a new Sierra Bullet) that hasn't been tested in someone's personal rifle/weapon. That extent, I've heard and seen suggestion of how well a particular bullet performs (price never enters into the commentary because precision shooting isn't exactly cheap at times) in a rifle and upon testing it in MY PARTICULAR rifle, it doesn't shoot nearly as well as what I'm currently using. So might I suggest that price alone isn't even a consideration to some. If precision shooting and accuracy is your thing, don't exclude it from consideration or testing based solely on the $$ sign. You may be selling yourself short or even that of your rifle's capabilities. Just saying.

To run out and by into the hype off the bat for such a high priced product over the competition is not something I buy into. I rarely buy anything new when it first gets released.

Now, once these have been out for a while and they have been tested and reviewed thoroughly and compared to the competition we will see what those results are. At this time I have NO information to justify the high cost over my go to projectile, the 178 Amax. As time moves on that might change, or it might not.

We are at the "fill the pipeline" phase right now. The marketing dept created a large demand and the boxes will be snapped up as they hit the shelves.

I'll just sit back and wait until some reviews other than those from magazine writers are available. By then there should be a "full pipeline" and I don't have to spend half a day searching either at the shops or online.

That's assuming that they are worth the price and have all that improved performance that has been touted.

FYI, got an email reply from Otto Weber informing me TMK's were in stock but there was a glitch on his site they were aware of and the server is working it out. Nice guy and said he would contact me when issue is resolved as I'm interested in ordering some 77's to try out.

I ordered some 168 TMKs from Creedmoor Sports a few days ago. The had 308 cal 168 gr and 175 gr bullets as well as 224 cal 77 gr and 69 gr.

Has anyone checked to see if the 168 Tipped Matchkings will do 1000 yards? With all the talk about the regular Matchkings becoming unstable, I'm curious as to whether or not the tips help.

I believe that Sierra mentioned that the boat-tail on the tipped 168 was redesigned too.

Looking at the information on the sierra website I think the tipped 168 is supposed to be just a little better then the normal 175. The tipped 175 looks like its still supposed to be better then the 175 but the difference isn't as huge as the 168. That's just how I interpret it though. I bought a box of the tipped 175 so I can work up a batch and see how they perform. I expect similar results to the non-tipped versions at shorter ranges and the longer the distance gets the more improvement there should be. My main interest is how the tipped 175 performs against the berger 185 juggernaut at long range.

Thanks for pic. I just ordered some 77's from Powder Valley. Eager to try them out at distance. Comparing to my known 77 SMK moly load. Interested to see what numbers Strelok shows for holdover and hold off.

I picked up 500 of the 168 TMKs from Creedmoor Sports. Here is a picture of the box and another pic shows three 168 gr bullets (l-r: 168 SMK, 168 TMK, 168 Berger Target Hybrid). The 168 TMK is the longest by a good margin. I forgot to get length measurements.
