Sierra Palma Vertical issue: Seating depth or...?

I have four .308 rifles the 2156 shoot best in the lands in all of them

That is very good to know....I will definitely try jamming them....

Any suggestions for starting place for seating depth test?

I'm at .015, btw most guy's are running them around 2980-3000 in a palma rifle

Ok. Now I have an idea

I'm just shooting a 26" barrel it's my F-class gun, which is also my hunting gun....I need to get more guns

Loaded up some rounds at 6 different seating depths, roughing it in at .010 jam, .000, .010, .020, .030, 040 off the lands to see how that goes, then fine tune from there.....looks like I'll be waiting until Tuesday, from the wind forecast, 15-20 mph the next couple days

emn83, do you sort those 2156's by base to ogive length?

When I first started using the 2156's it was immediately apparent that there were three distinct "batches" out of the 500-count boxes I'd bought.

This was confirmed by another shooter (from Texas incidentally, who's got an inside line to Sierra) as being typical for this product.

So, any efforts towards settling on a seating depth "standard" for these bullets must take into account where the bases are relative to the ogive/seating die contact point.

This experience caused me to switch to Berger 155's (Hybrids the past two seasons) so the 2156's I have left (~300) will get used for 600 yards.

emn83, let us know what your vertical spread was before and after testing.

Going by memory, at 600, I had something like a 1.5-2 MOA spread.... Wil be charting my spreads this time.....one of the loads is the same as the one I shot at the competition

Good to know. I'll be keeping that in mind

All my shooting is 600 yards or closer right now, working on my skills more before pushing out to LR

I've been shooting the 2156's myself and just got 500 berger hybrids. Did you have to tweak your load much from one to the other?
