Sierra match king 69 gn. hpbt or Hornaday 68 gn. hpbt match

I have tried the 68gr in 6 different ar's and 3 bolt actions. I have only got one gun to shoot them under 1" one time. I think it was a fluke. They normally run about 1.25"-1.5" in every gun. It might just be me but the Sierras run from 3/8"-3/4" groups in about every 223 gun I own.
I've had the same experience with 4 different 223 barrels so far. 69's just always shoot.

Follow up ladder test on the SMK 69 gn.
Well I took the Bass players advice on test the smk first
and I was supersized with the results
I guess the Bass player knows the key that tune is played in

Back before I shot 77’s at 2 and 300 I shot sierra 69’s but would also shoot Nosler and hornady if I got them on sale
Same powder load and primer
Same settings on the dillon
I didn’t do it on purpose but I shot many high x cleans with mixed batches

Do the same thing with 77’s and 75’s

The Sierra's

I know there are some fans of the Hornady ELD's but for me they are just so inconstant on weight and measurement base to ojive.

I LOVE the Hornady ELD's (I shoot them exclusively for mid and long range .223 matches) and their 52 grain options...but I've never actually shot either the Hornady 68 or 75 bthp. You hear of people having great luck with the 75's, but I've never seen anyone shoot the 68.

I went distinguished using Sierra 69's at 200/300 and 80's at 600. It was a tough sell to get me to go away from that combo for across the course, but the low price of the Hornadys lured me in. So far they work (the ELD's anyway).

Sierra 69 SMK is 100% the easy button for an accurate .223 load. If your setup won't shoot a 69 SMK accurately, it won't shoot.

what distance. if only 200 either, if 300 me thinks if goes to sie
My AR15 A2, (factory 1983 Colt in Delta configuration) loves the Hornady, if the wind isn't gusting more than 15mph a 1/2 shiloutte gets hit 100% at 500 yards, as long as my patience holds. I can stretch that to 600 on calm days.

With that said it didn't stop me from getting an AR15 in 6ARC.

The rifle will speak the truth.

I have shot almost 200 of the Hornady in 2 different Savage. 1st was so-so. Second through a 26" Model 12 barrel and these were loaded very long and shot with TAC and A2460. They shot decent but I also didn't spend a lot of time with them. At the same time I also shot some 69gr Barnes Match Burners that if I could have found more of them I would have bought them.

sorry about that it is a gas gun 16 inch barrel 1 in 7 twist
So it is a 223 in an AR format gun. That 1-7 twist will work well with 77 gr. Sierra bullets - both tipped and hp. I used to shoot the 68 gr. Sierra, both tired and hp in my AR 600 yard target rifle. 1-8 twist and both were OK. Going to the 77 gr. sure has seemed to help with movement in wind.

I only tried Hornady bullets in my 223 bolt rifle. Ended up using 55 gr. for what I do with it. In my bolt 22-250 AI, the Hornady seem to work best and expand good on prairie dogs and small vermin.
