Sierra Match King .224 90gr. ???

Actually three questions.......

Are the new 90r. bullets tipped by Sierra???

Does anyone, that tips their own bullets, know what the BC is of the tipped bullet???

Curious as to the gain earned by tipping the bullet.

How close is the claimed BC of .563 to reality???

I've looked at a few but never shot them. Points look better than 115 dtac points but not as consistent as when I point 90 vlds. Can't comment on bc yet, but due to the lack of Berger making any 90's in a year, I ordered 500 Sierra's today.

Sierra claims allot higher than that (564) since they started pointing it. They are a good bit shorter than the vld's but only seated .009 out further when touching the lands.

I'll be following this closely as my stash of 90 Bergers are all but gone and it looks like the "new and improved" Sierra 90 will be my go to. I've seen the increase in BC. Guessing they are pointing them now? Sierra recommends a 6.5 TW. I have a 30" 7 TW barrel. Shoots bergers just fine. Probably will shoot the Sierra's also?

Looking at the two side by side the Sierra looks more like a Juggernaut compared to the vld. I don't see how the bc on the Sierra could be higher but will see this weekend hopefully. Being shorter they should shoot better in a 7 twist than the Berger's.

I don't think you will be able to see any difference due to twist rate. My 7 twist with 90VLDs has won a number of 300, 500, and 600 yard matches shooting clean with very high X counts. It has also won at 300 with 80 Amax's.

I run 90gr VLDs @ 2750fps from a 22" 223AI with Varget and they work great.

ETA: 500' ASL, 59F, 29.92Hg

DUKEDUKE 7 TWIST WILL WORK FOR 90'S, I THINK THE SWEET SPEED IS AROUND 2750-2800 FPS RANGE SO THAT WHAT I SEE ALOT!!!!!

First, I don't shoot the 223 past 600 yards. There are those that do with success, but I don't.

Search around, I have posted the recipe for shooting the 90vld more than once. Do it by the recipe and it works. You have to start with the right reamer/ freebore to get them out of the case.

I am running them at about 2800 plus or minus.

What if you were to run them out of a .22 BR or a .22 BRDX, or a .22 Dasher???

Now that we have long neck Dasher cases ( if they prove them selves ) that could be good for the velocity side of things........

I knew that I wasn`t going to be the first, I just like the extra speed, I thought that the faster cartridge might prove fun if the BC holds up.....

How is the brass life in the lower nodes?
I'm running them 2820 ish and the primer pockets go pretty quickly. Thinking of toning it down a bit for 300-600.

I don't know about lower nodes, but most people find that with Dave Kiffs 90VLD reamer with a 169 free bore, jam 10, 24.5 gr Varget plus or minus, the 90s shoot lights out at about 2800fps depending on your barrel.

Some have found that jumping 10 to 15 works, and H4895 has given good results too, with slightly less powder, but in the 223 everyone is getting 2800 to about 2850. Brass lasts about 4 to 6 or so depending on your particular load.

Those who have reached for the 2900 plateau have found suffering and frustration.

There's a good node around 2650. 4350 could get you there without compression depending on your throat and infinite brass and barrel life. IMHO all you need for 600
