Sierra Bullet Recommendation

I recently attended a Friends of the NRA banquet and was the lucky bidder in the silent auction for 1000 Sierra bullets of my choosing. The problem is, I cannot decide which bullets that I should choose.

I shoot F-class open and currently shoot mid-range with a 6Dasher (currently shooting 104g Bibs) and a 6.5x47 Lapua (currently shooting 140g JLKs/Hybrids) and I shoot long-range with a .284 Win (currently shoot 180g Hybrids/177 Cauterucios).

I deer hunt with a .25-06 Remington and shoot 115g Berger VLDs but I am thinking about getting it re-barreled to a 6.5x55 Swede derivative. I haven't used nor will I likely use Sierra hunting bullets, so I doubt I will start if I re-barrel.

I am leaning towards the 107g SMKs or the 180g SMKs.

What say the forum regarding which bullets they would shoot based on past experience?

I had some very promising loads during devolpment with the 142 SMK in my 6.5x47.

Good luck

I'd get the heaviest SMKs that will stabilize in my favorite cartridge.

Other factors being equal, larger caliber SMKs are more expensive, so feeding a bigger caliber saves more money with the 1000 bullets, but then you have to have a match with a hungry mouth you actually need to feed.

I'm getting good results from the 180 gr. SMK in my 284, 5-shot 100 yd. groups are in the .3's in my re-barreled Savage #12 F-class rifle, under 1" at 300 yds. might be smaller if I shot better. The 142 SMK shot good in my 6.5x284 and the 107 SMK shoots good in my 243. Your choice but the 180 SMK would be the best value.

Sierra bullets are junk so PM me and I will give you my address and you can have either the .257 117 Pro Hunter, .264 120 gr Pro Hunter or 140 Game King or .308 150 Pro hunters sent directly to me so you do not have to waste you time trying to get these junk bullets to shoot. ::) ::) ::)

Thanks for all the opinions, seems like the 107g SMKs and the 180g SMKs are in the lead.

I have some 180s to try in my .284 and some 107s to try in my Dasher, but the other bullets i use have shot so well that I haven't gotten around to testing them. I guess I should move up my timeline, to see if either shoot as well.

I might just sell it and take the money and buy the bullets I KNOW shoot well.

I bid really low and did not think I would get them. Kinda feel like having the bullets and not needing them is a better position to be in than needing the bullets and not having them.

Thanks again all.

Buy some .224 , 69gr Green Plastic Tip 69 Match Kings Sierra Bullets and sell them here.
at a huge discount to us site supporters of course. lol.

I'd skip the 180 grain 7mm and go for the 175 instead. They have a much better design and hold elevation at 1,000 yards better than anything else I've ever shot in the 7mm RSAUM.

Clowdis, I actually thought about that too, the 175s shot better for me in my .284 Shehane than the 180s, just didn't want to give up too much wind drift (BC).

According to JBM, the 175s give up 2.5" or 0.2 MOA to the 180s at 1000 yards in a 10 mph crosswind, not sure if I can hold that difference.

Thanks, something else to consider.
