Sierra 95gr

Has anyone heard any news about the 95gr Sierras that they were going to make for 1-10 twist tubes??

I was wondering if anyone has tried the new 95 grain Sierra MK's yet? I called Sierra and although they are now available for purchase they did not have a BC listed for them - anyone know what it is?

Thanks

It's supposed to be in the .500 range. I ordered 200 from Grafs and am real anxious to try them. Hopefully should extend the range of my 10twist 243.

Just recieved my order of Sierra 95gr matchKings. According to the article I read these were supposed to be optimized for 1-10 twist barrels. It says on each box of bullets "9 twist or faster". I wonder what gives?

Wyo--

Sierra's Ballistics Techs said the rounds will stabilize in a 10-twist, and they did a lot of testing. Of course you have to have them moving fast enough. That may be why the box says "9 twist" or faster just so no-one complains if they're using a really slow load.

Our friend Chuck in Arizona has tried them in a confirmed 10-twist Savage Striker barrel that is only 16" long. He was using a relatively mild 6mmBR load and they stabilized fine out to 500 yards.

Thanks for the info. I intended to shoot them at the highest velocity I could safely, anyhow.:) Anyone with a powder suggestion for this bullet through a .243 and 500yd and beyond shots?

Wyo

Ditto.
My number one choice is also RL-22 then H4350 then IMR 4350 then AA Magpro, Lapua brass, Federal Gold Metal Match primers. I was mainly shooting 107 Sierra, 95 VLD Moly Bergers and 87gr V-Max. The 95 Bergers shot the best then my next purchase of 95s were longer and I didn't get to develop any of those in .243. The same shorter version would shoot even better
in my 10 twist 6BR varmint rifle with RL-15 than in the 9 twist .243. If the new 95 Sierras shoot as good as the 107s do in my 6 Dasher I'll probably try them in my .243 Ackley that I purchased from James Phillips. :thumb:

Thanks for both the replies. Actually RL-22 was [is] on the list of choices I was seriously considering.

42.0 h4350 with the 95SMK gave me the best accuracy and about 3075fps in a Tikka 595,~22" barrel)

This was a 10 twist and they were hitting point-on at 1030yds.

It would be interesting to hear others feedback on this particular bullet [SMK 95gr BTHP] and how it performs. Of course I'm excited about it because I've got a bullet choice above 90grs and one with a respectable BC to boot to shoot through my Plain Jane 10twist. Be assured your load information, I'm sure, will be helpful to me. Thanks

Wyo:)

Varminator, Where did you start your charges of RL-22 for the 95bergs? Lookin for a starting charge for RL-22.

I am testing some of these out a T2k in 6XC tomorrow. I am a Berger sort of guy but always looking at new stuff. Will try them out, especially as I am thinking of going to 107s at 600 as I have had too many 115s go POOF!

If anyone wants to hear results and see data, i will be glad to post it. Will be tested at 300 yards and will pull irons and stick a NightForce on there and shoot for a rest, yeah, I actually have a scope and a rest...go figure!). I aint a benchrester so I will be looking for XTC use, probably 300 yardline use.

I'd like to hear everything,so far I'm not impressed at all with the 95s.
Jb said .020 into the lands, I usually don't do that in a gas gun but, in this case I'll try anything.
Maybe sierra will implement some quality control and get these up to their normal standards.

40gr of Varget in Lapua cases gave me 3200 fps from a 24" barrel. So maybe start at 38. OL variations can raise pressure quickly so be careful.

Thanks constructor

Could i substitute 90g load data from the book, or would it be better to substitute 100g loads?
Thanks

For a starting load I would substitute from the 100s. Heavier bullets usually require less powder at the same pressure so it would be safer to start from the 100 loads. also if the bullet like the 95 sierra is longer than the one you're using as a substitute, it will take up room in the case and also raise pressure so just start low and work up.
