Sierra Infinity Suite software lists max load for VARGET,the powder I also use) as 23.9 grains for a listed velocity of 2550 f.p.s. This was obtained with a Federal case, and Rem. 7 1/2 primers in a Colt HBAR AR rifle. OAL=2.260
My match load was something I got from a Dist. Rifleman/President's Hundred/High Master:
Winchester Cases, CCI BR-4 primer, 23.5 gr. VARGET for 77 gr. SMK-HP loaded out as far as she'll go,2.260) or 0.015 off of the inside of the 20 round magazine.
In case you need a match load for 600 prone-slow fire, use the same powder charge,or a little more since your OAL is much longer when shooting single shot = +/- 2.450" OAL-as close to the lands as you can get them, i.e. the bullet will be farther from the heavier powder charge so you get less pressure)
I have seen 24.5 grains of VARGET shoot very accurately with no pressure signs in heavy barreled match grade service rifles AR-15's. Use common sense: back off of the maximum load by 0.5-1.0 grain and slowly work up from there. MAX. LOAD as listed for 80 grain bullets in service rifles is 24.0 grains of VARGET for 2600 f.p.s.
