Sierra 183's in a 9 twist

I'm looking for feedback from shooters that have tried the Sierra 183 HPBT (factory pointed) in a 9-twist barrel. I shot a few at 100 yards to see if they went through the paper without keyholing yesterday, but did not have any left to try at 300 yards plus. Not sure if velocity will be a factor, but this is for a straight .284 Winchester.

Thanks

Joel, Kent was testing them out after nationals last year. I never talked to him after his testing, but I know that he post them for sale here afterwards. You can ask him what he found.

I have put Berger 200 20X down a tube with 1x12 twist. Made a little round hole. No key- holing. They are a lot longer than the Sierra 183s. You should have no problem. Would like to know. if it works for you.. Tommy Mc..

Ask Lester Bruno, he smoked everyone at BSW a couple years ago with a 1-9

I shoot them out of a 1:9 Bartline 5R 32" barrel, 2800 fps. Not much load development just pulled 54.0 gr 4831 sc, Br-2, Lapua brass, .020 off out of my arse and shot it.
600 yards altitude appx. 2000'. 598-37x and 599-33x the two times I tried them. Best score was 200-15x. So I don't think there is a stabilization problem, at this altitude at least, but may be a slight loss in BC. This is prone/ sling on the conventional MR target.
I like them, they work for what I need them to do.

They will not keyhole out of a 9 twist. I am testing them in my 284 shehane 9 twist. I have only shot them at 1000 yards. I am using h4831sc and br2 primers. They are performing well out of my fopen gun.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I guess it's time to chamber it up and see what happens...

I was shooting them out of a 9 twist at 1,190 ASL and they were ok, but nothing stellar. Took that combination to Colorado at 5,500 ASL and it shot tiny little knots. Got back home and screwed on a 8.25 twist and it is scary accurate.
I guess it depends on the elevation as to how they preform out of a 9 twist.
