Sierra 135

I was through Sedalia last year and bought some of the "new" 135 grain .308 bullets intended for the Blackout. I loaded some in a 308 Win using Federal match cases, standard primer and a moderate load. I followed the Sierra advice to keep it slow, looking for between 2500 and 2800 FPS.

I just shot several 5 shot 100 yard groups in the 1/3 to 1/4 inch range, using a stock 1980's 700 VS in a "tacticool" stock and a 6-20 Viper.

No question this silly little bullet would make a fine eastern woodchuck bullet or coyote bullet. I was impressed with the accuracy (especially since these are "2nds") and lack of recoil in a 308. I mention this because it would make a fine reduced recoil round for a beginner. My daughter regularly shoots 168 MKs in the 308 and likes it, but I noted a significant change in her demeanor and her bench manners when we switched over.

it is worth a look-see.

No, they are the funky nosed bullet made for the blackout.
.30 CALIBER/7.62MM (.308) 135 GR HP VARMINTER
Our new 30 caliber 135 gr HP (#2124) was created specifically for explosive expansion and instant kills on larger varmints and predators. This light weight, thin-jacketed hollow point bullet is devastatingly effective, but requires velocities to remain under 3,200 FPS. For 300 Blackout and reduced recoil loads, this new offering adds another excellent hunting bullet option.

The #2124 was introduced in October 2015.

I bet if you got this bullet up to 2900-3000 fps in a .308 it would do interesting things to small bodied deer at 100-200 yards.

Nosler makes a 140g CC designed around the blackout. In my garands and M1A they shoot very well with reduced recoil. Just be careful of OAL. They are very blunt nosed and require a short OAL (in the 2.600" range) in my M1A or you'll accidentally be jamming them into the lands.

What OACL were you using with these bullets in your .308??

I just moved and my mic is packed away. I did not write it down as I just built the cartridge to be 015 off the lands. Never played with it after that because I just tried lower loads till it started humming. it did not show good accuracy over 2800. Int eh 3-3200 range it opened up to 1.5 inches, no pattern. At 2800 it double groups (maybe the stock and rest, not the load) but it is trying hard to shoot 1/4 inch. It just does it 3 in `1, 2 in 1 next to each other. Still under 1/2 inch.

Any load data updates on this?

It would be great if you could use the same bullet in your 308, and 300blk.
