SIERRA. 110gr.bthp

Please none of this is better than that discussions. Looking for those with experience with the Sierra 110 hpbt. at long range .
Has anyone used them at 1200 / 1500 yards.? Maybe tried them at 1 mile.. How do they perform in the wind.?

Rifle is 6 ARC gas gun 26 in. Bartlein 1 - 7.25 twist. Sierra about half price of what I have used, and had good results.

Any suggestions and or comments based on experience.

Thank you to all!

I use the 110 SMK in a 15" XP100 specialty pistol in 6BR with 1-7 twist. I have shot it out to 500 meters and it is the flattest shooting bullet I have used. They buck the wind Very well also. Accuracy is excellent.

BUT, Other than factory seconds, I have not been able to get this bullet for almost 2 years!

As I said In stock now @ Midway, probably some other places also.
Thank you.!

I've probably shot 5000+ of 110s. My experience with them is you really need a 7 twist. They'll shoot awesome...until they don't. Pretty finicky about seating depth. Doesn't seem to take much to go out of tune, like in the middle of a match.
Thank you for the reply. I have been told they are finicky. Your determination of finicky, in what way.
What distance have you used them in competition.? Will they stabilize in a 7.25 twist.?
Thank you.!

According to my twist calcs at 2600fps they need a 1-6.92 twist minimum. At 2800fps they need a 7.29 twist.

You will be on the ragged edge of being stable either way.

I tried them in a 6BRA with a 7 twist barrel and as has been said... I think finicky and or hard to tune to get them to shoot.

I shot the 107SMK and the 110 ATIPs and the 6BRA just hammered those into nice tight small groups. If you can push the 107's to 2800fps they will be just above the speed of sound at 1200 yards (depending on conditions etc..) so they can do it. I've shot the 107's to 1200 but only out of a 6mm Rem and 6x47 Lapua and I was pushing them 3100fps. They did great for a 6mm but if you run up against a guy shooting a 7mm or even a 6.5mm they will have the advantage over ya.

Finicky to me is needing to redo your seating depth after every 2 day match(prs, 200 + rounds). I've made impacts out to 1400 yards, using a 6xc. Idk about 7.25 twist, depending on your altitude.

Thank you for your reply.
I compete against myself, and the 95% that tell me 6 ARC , and gas gun will not do 1760 yards.
Others before me have done it, dont know what bullet or grainI. I recently did it at Spearpoint with multiple hits on 24 X 24 in steel plate.
Used one of your 26 in. barrel's Believe it was called 7.25 gain twist. Used the 110 A tip@ 2758 fps average.
Just wanting to try the Sierras due to price differences, however if they are difficult to obtain, & be consistent I may just suck it up and pay the price.

Thank you Sir for the quality barrel.!

OK gentlemen
From the replies posted so far I am understanding the 110 sierra may, or may not stabilize in a 7.25 twist barrel, from Lance 21 sounds like he is working closely with throat erosion, and chasing the lands. Others have mentioned seating depth. All of you have major vast experience with the 110 sierra. I am asking for a simple explanation as to what is the bullett doing or not doing for the bullett to be labeled finicky.

Anyone care to share where they started from in testing, and what the results were. I am well aware of finding what works with one rifle does not work with others. Looking for the reason they become finicky during a match, what changes, is velocity changing, is point of impact changing dramatically I know you guys are meticulous about being consistent with your reloading procedures is the velocity showing major changes? Looking for the reason for them to be loaded and called finicky, talked to one balliistican that used the highly technical term of wonky. What powders, what primers. Share some starting info please, and your results

Thank you for sharing your specific definition of finicky, or pickey. .

Thank you.!

Sure glad not involved with the (Why is it called a boat tail ) thread. The guy may be super incredible book smart, so many times they can not communicate with people of experience. Or common sense.
Will somebody please define. "FINICKY" in plain reloading definition. Please no long drawn out mathematical charts.

Hope all had a great weekend of shooting.!

Being finicky is generally a small seating depth.1-2 tenths difference in either direction might put you out of tune. A 200 round match might do that much or more. I was running a 6xc, h4350, Norma brass, Fed 210m primers. I really didn't feel safe going from a 2 day match to another 2 day match without verifying how much erosion has occurred. I switched to the Sierra 107 mk and my tuning problems went away.

Thank you Lance21. !
From what I had read I surmised everyone was referring to seating depth. From your experience, how much difference could you see on the paper, and at what distance, with the 110s.

Thank you again.! :)

I shot a lot of them in a 7.5" at 2800 even in a BRA and 2950 in my BRX and they shot very well. But they might be bit heavy for the 6ARC In gas gun.
Thank you Sir
What powder.?
Used 110 A tips out to 1760 yards on 24 X 24 steel plate. Multiple hits. Just received some Sierra 110 hpbt will start load testing when air temp cools off a little.

Thanks again.

I shot probably 300 of them or so out of one of my 6XCs with R16 and they were fantastic. I didn't have any tuning issues with them that I could see but I was just shooting steel for fun, nothing super serious. Then they became unobtanium for a while and I switched to the hybrids because that's what my other rifle was shooting and I had plenty on hand.

H4895 in the BRA and RL16 in the BRX which also works great in the Dasher.
