Hell, I'm mid thirties and run 6'01" 230 lbs and all I can see myself hunting with from here out is my .243. Dang things just work. No muss, no fuss...For deer, I wwnt back to the 243 Win which is what I started with over 50 years ago. With the right bullet, correct shot placement, and reasonable distance, the 243 will do the job.
Like they aren't going to notice the padded vest?Actually I don't have a hard recoil rifle. My 6ppc recoils the most because of it's lighter weight. The pain is in the top of my arm at the shoulder joint. I have never seen a recoil pad on a bench gun. My buddys would think [know] I'm a pussy if I had one. lol. I was thinking of a vest with a pad in it. Just wondering what others did.
Have a good day.
Never lost a deer to the 243 if I hit it. Oh I missed a few but with a broadside slightly behind the shoulder hit I never failed to retrieve a deer. My favorite all time bullet is the 85 grain Sierra BTHP. Super accurate and very effective.Hell, I'm mid thirties and run 6'01" 230 lbs and all I can see myself hunting with from here out is my .243. Check out PAST recoil pad inserts. You can get them in a strap-on version too. I use them when shooting my Pedersoli Remington Rolling Block muzzleloader from the bench. Getting too old to take .50 caliber, 400-grain bullets over 90 grains of powder in a light rifle from that position! Really helps.Actually I don't have a hard recoil rifle. I've been using the PAST strap-on for years when shooting an 03 & similar rifles in competition. They are well worthwhile.Check out PAST recoil pad inserts.
