shoulder bumping ?

I reload for a 223 bolt gun and a 223 AR. The cases fired in the AR have to have the shoulder bmped back to chamber in the bolt rifle. Do I have to keep adjusting the die for the different cases or are the ones that chamber in the bolt rifle ok to shoot in the AR ?

Minimal sizing will promote longer brass life...you would be better served by dedicating separate batches of brass for each rifle, sizing each accordingly.

Thank you for thew replies. I do have a 1000 brand new lake city that I can use for just the bolt rifle and a 1000 once fired that I can use for the AR. For a new set of dies what would you guys recommend ?

I would recommend a Wilson F/L bushing type Die,
They don’t use an expander ball system, resizing is minimal.
These are very nice Dies sold at Brunos for a very good price.

If you are not turning necks. you may want to use a bushing die and keep the expander. With Whidden or Redding dies you can use the Whidden expander balls that are avaliable in different diameters, if you want to have more or less neck tension. By matching the bushing size to the expander diameter you can have a situation where the expander is doing so little work (.001 or so) that concentricity is not diminished and with unturned necks the IDs of your sized case necks will be rounder and more consistent Of course you will want to use some sort of lube inside of the necks when sizing, and while mandrel expansion of necks generally requires a liquid lube, opening them up just a little you can get away with the Imperial media setup, doing the necks before lubing the outside of the case, before sizing. This is not conjecture. I have done it, and measured the results.

Note: I made a correction from ODs to IDs in the sixth line.

Dies..... what ones?
Depends on what you want to do. If your just plinking and having fun then Hornady, RCBS dies will be just fine. On the other hand if your thinking competition then Forster, Sinclair, Wilson just to name a few. Be prepared, the rabbit hole starts to get deep.

Redding bushing dies are good, too. I dedicate a hundred brass to each of my guns and it only gets shot in that gun. Keep good records of accurate measurements of your cases . You need to know the shoulder to base dimensions that work in each gun.

I have good luck for 25 years + one FL SB .223 RCBS Sizer . RCBS Comp. Seater .
Used them for AR Match Rifles and Bolt Rifle Match and Dog Gun.
Never mix the brass ... Gas Guns are hard on Brass .
