shoulder block question

potatoe

Silver $$ Contributor
I have a shoulder block for measuring the bump of my .243 AI brass that was made by the gunsmith from the excess barrel. I am having a dasher built and was thinking I could use the same block for measing both the dasher and .243 AI brass since they both have 40 degree shoulders.

Would I be able to use the same block for both?

I make gages, I create datums,, for most the datum on the 30/06 is 3/8 inch or .375, I do not get hung up on the angle of the shoulder or the datum, I make them up, nothing to keep up with as long as I stay with one number, for all measurements, most can not get past the datum, they insist on calling it a line,.

Potatoe,I cut a chamber gage when I cut a chamber, the only measurement to keep up with is case head protrusion, we all know (with a few exceptions) the L. E. Wilson case gage is not a chamber gage but measures the case length from the shoulder to the head of the case and from the shoulder to the mouth of the case from a point on the shoulder, the part of the gage that contacts the case shoulder has a radius of .375.

There are those that insist it can not be done, a gage without a shoulder is the most accurate, problem: is cost, the cost is nothing, the difficult part is convincing someone it can be done unless there is a way to make them think 'IT WAS THEIR IDEAL'.
