Should front sling swivel studs be wood thread or machine?

I agree with the bolt and nut. My brother gave me one of those wide aluminum bipods with feet. It tore two studs out of the wood before I gave it back to him. Edk

Just as a sling holder they are OK with wood threads, if your going to be using a bipod, then the threaded type is safer.

Not just a nut and machine screw. Use a good-sized washer or nut plate on the inside. It will spread the load.

Hey Feller, I asked that same question one time and an old hunter told me that it depends on two things.... how much your scope is worth and how far from base camp do you hunt.... John

If you are a sling and coat shooter inlet an aluminum plate in the barrel channel and use a swivel attachment with a machine screw threaded stud. Recommend at least a aluminum plate 3/16ths thick tapped to accept the swivel. An Anschutz or Fredland rail is better.

I use 't' nuts epoxied in from the barrel channel side. Never had one loosen up.

I went with the 10 x 32 machine screw. Not likely to use a bi pod on it.

Steel inserts added to the stock will keep screws/bolts from pulling out.
"Quik release sling swivels" work great also. Set flat on the stock and don't get in the way.
