Shotgun/rifle combo stock legality

OK, not sure where to post this.
I was asked by a friend if I could make some sort of a stock to have an AK 47 rifle on top and an 870 shotgun on the bottom. I would have to remove the stock off from the shotgun and make a mounting bracket to attach it to the rifle. Basically, an over under rifle/shotgun. The shotgun would be placed somewhat forward to clear the magazine coming out the bottom of the rifle.

I know this sounds somewhat impractical, but bear with me.

I had told him it might be possible to make an attachment, but I wasn't sure if it was even legal to do this.

With the new political winds, what is the legality of this?

You looking into something like KAC Masterkey?

I'm not familiar with US legislation, but I'd say you run into problems because too short a shotgun is considered "destructive device" and needs additional paperwork...

That is kind of what I had in mind. I wasn't sure if they were still considered two separate guns or if the overall length of the combination would constitute as a stock for the shotgun. I would maintain the legal length from the breech face to the end of the shotgun barrel. It was legality of the removal of the stock from the shotgun and attaching it to the AK I was concerned about.

Again, I do NOT want to do anything illegal. It probably rides the line if it is legal and it would probably be safer not to do it. But it would be cool to shoot, albeit cumbersome.

If anyone has any other input as far as resources to find out, it would be appreciated.

I took my 870 and AK,Bulgarian) out of the safe and made some measurements. I presume legal length for shotgun bbl is 18",?)

Taking the shotgun barrel length into account, and also the space AK magazine needs for operation, rocks forward when ejected and rearwards when inserted), the 870 would protrude something like 10+ inches forward of the AK flash hider, when mounted below the barrel).

If your friend really wants the gun, I'd look into other ways to mount 870. On the left side of the gun it wouldn't probly interfere too much. But you'd need to mount it quite far back, if you don't want the barrel to protrude more than AK F/H...
