Shotgun powder for fireforming with cow?

My question is if I can use shotgun powder to fireform 6brx cases safely? I will be using cow and paper wadding.

I have used unique and cow I fill case up and weigh then start at 10% of the powder charge and work up till you get satisfactory results. Maybee someone else can chime in with their method.RW

I've heard of people using Red Dot.

I haven't seen anything more than ghostly traces of shotgun powder for a year, though...

I have some 8 pounders of Promo and 20-28 that I would be using. Since I had the surplus I thought why buy more if I can use this.

HI Ron,,,in this day and age with the component shortage and the cost of bullets and barrels it is wise to FF as you are trying,,,I have never used the powders that you have ,,but,,,I normally use something similar to Universal Clays,,,and use aproz 55-60% of a case full with 1/4 sq of TP rolled up into a buritto and packed in the case to hold the powder in place for fireing,,,Roger

Ok, Roger and RW, I will try your methods out. RW with 10% case capacity and cow with a tp plug. And Roger with 50% powder and tp plug. They both will save me money for bullets and wear on my barrel, thanks guys!

Ron I have had to increase the powder charge more than the 10% starting point but that is where I start and then work up from there you can get a feel with how much the case is formed with the initial starting load as some shotgun powders are faster that othersRW

I use some old Winchester Shotgun powder to ff 243 AI and 7mm Krag Improved with excellent results. Just make sure you clean the barrel AND the chamber about every 10 shots or so. Seems like it is easy to get a grain of unburned powder in the chamber and it will show on the case. Tom

it is real handy if you have compresses air available to blow out the action and barrel every 10 shots or so and run a patch thru. RW
