shot my rifle today

hey men, shot my rifle today and was pretty pleased with it. i was really nervous because it was the first rifle i had ever built and the first time i handloaded anything. any suggestions on how i could tighten up my groups. my best load was: 65 gr vmax, 33 gr vv n135, and cci br4 primer. i set the bullet to touch the lands. this load gave me .410 at a 100 yrds. i dont know how to read wind, and shot off a rifle rest so maybe it could do better, but any suggestion would help, thanks SPM

Sounds pretty good for a 1st effort with a new rifle. I shoot 32.5 N135 with a 65 gr. Vmax. Velocity is ~3400fps. Learn the rifle. Then start tweaking the powder and seating depth.

What's the caliber?

A .410" is serious accuracy. Some guys will shoot for decades without ever having a bonafied sub-half-MOA group.

I'd say you're on track. Work on the consistency of your trigger pull. If you haven't done so already, put up a couple of wind flags. Intially don't worry about precisely reading the wind values--just try to fire all your shots in the same condition, same direction, same general strength).

thanks for replying, the cal. is 6mmbr with a no turn neck and a .060 freebore. moderator, maybe i measured wrong, what i did was measured the outside edges and subtracted .243. if this is wrong i will remeasure. SPM

Are you fire forming new brass as well as performing proper
break in procedure? It is not uncomon for fire forming loads
to shoot well as the bullet is well into the lands to force the
case up against the bolt face. That said, if you can keep a .410
average group size, you've got yourself a fine 400 yd killer.

thane, no im not fireforming the cases, but when i reamed it, i stopped a 0 headspace. so i assume the case is pushed up to the bolt face anyway, but i don't know forsure. like i said im a newb at this.
