Shot My First Buck Today In 25 Years

You did the right thing. That reminds me of an incident I had in 1974 - hit a German shepherd (about 120 lbs.?) at 50 mph. Completely totaled the front end of my car, pushing the radiator into the fan, prompting the need for a tow truck. The dog was in really bad shape, but still alive. I asked the officer if he'd just shoot the dog to end the misery. Nope - he needed to call for the animal folks which still weren't there when I left with the tow truck. If I'd had a gun and shot it, no doubt (where I lived), I'd possibly have been charged. I still couldn't conceive a judge sending anyone to jail in such a situation., assuming no firearm possession laws were violated.

No sane person today would trust a judge, for or about anything. If your in doubt don't forget they all started out as lawyers.

Right, but it all depends on where you are at.

Iowa bleeds RED. Land of common sense laws. Don't need a debate on political stuff on this issue.

The animal was put down humanely. What if, is not an issue.

As the saying goes...shoot, shovel, and shut up.....

Had a deer run into the side of my truck and was still alive. Deputy arrived promptly. All he had was his service revolver. I told him that I had a 22 in the truck. He said use it. I brain boxed it. Instant and humane dispatch. Didn't hurt I knew the deputy. Had the house windows open on a summer day and heard a shot down on the blacktop. I looked down there and saw a County SUV squad car. Then two more shots. I saw the deputy put a long gun in the back of the SUV. When he drove away I jumped on the 4 wheeler and went down to see what all the shooting was about. I get down there and a small deer, still laying in the roadway, had 3 bullet holes in it. Apparently the deer had been hit with a car and the deputy took 3 shots from an AR 223 to "put it out of it's misery". Didn't even bother to pull it off the road. I hope that I never need to depend on his shooting skills to protect me.

Judges can be biased, no doubt. I have been sued several times in business situations (someone always trying to shake down a business). Those judges saved my ass a number of times from groundless shakedowns. They aren't all bad.....
