shortened 6BR

As a newbee, I appologize if this is old news to you guys.
I got a shortened Wilson seater die and a case which is about .100 shorter to the shoulder-body junction than a std 6br. Anyone heard of this wildcat?

Yes, that is one of several shortened BR cartridges from the 1980s and 1990s. They were all about the same, only the length varied slightly. They were intended to compete with the newfangled 6PPC by reducing the BR case capacity to PPC levels. They worked well. They were as accurate as the PPC but not better. Over-the-counter PPC brass, plus the labor involved in making the short BR cases, led to their demise, although there may be a few hangers-ons that still use them.

Where can I access brass for these short cases or get my hands on the dies that will move the shoulder back on standard cases

Being a wildcat there is no brass. You have to make your own. It is labor intensive and requires a set of shoulder set-back dies. Then a trim and a fire-form.

Maybe jerrold can give you some ideas since he's one of those hangers on. Or is it hanger ons? ;)

It is a very accurate cartridge. There are several versions differing only in case length.

The brass for these wonderful cases is made by pushing back the shoulder of a perfectly good 6BR case to the desired length then trimming to length and neck turning if necessary.

To push the shoulder back, you'll need a 6BR full length die thay's been shortened the appropriate amount. In my case, I use the .100 short version. You can use an RCBS or the press of your choice to do the deed. Use a slight amount of lube on the shoulder and neck junction and go for it. One note here...if you use too much lube, you'll get lube dents on your cases...don't worry though because they'll fireform out.

I shoot my short 6BR in BR competition and give up nothing to the 6PPCs. Lapua brass makes the extra effort of making the cases worthwhile.
