A little background on the rifles. First my 223 is a stock Remmy 700 with a timney trigger and a Callahan Traditional Non-ISS Firing Pin Assembly. The 308 is a semi-custom rifle built on a Remington 1917 Enfield military action. It has a custom barrel which is either a Douglas or Hart,Not sure which as there are no marking on it).
OK guys I got a Hornady LNL OAL Gauge,Stoney Point).
Here is what I am getting for measurements. I am using the bullet Comparator to do this. I seated the modified case in the chamber and then moved the bullet untill I felt it touch the lands.
In the 223 using 50gr V-max
OAL gauge = 1.887"
My loads = 1.851"
Difference = 0.036"
So my loads are .036" off the lands. Is this to far or to close?
Now the 308. 155gr Sierra Palma Match
OAL Gauge = 2.228"
My Loads = 2.184"
Difference = 0.044"
My loads are .044" off the lands good or bad?
Where do you guys like to have your bullets sitting off the lands?
