Short neck 30br article

I remember there was an article on this site about a 30br and that neck was shortened or the shoulder pushed forward until there was basically no neck. I can seem to find it. Any help would be appreciated

You're probably thinking about the 30 WolfPup that Stan Ware and myself developed. I had the first one out of Stan's shop and did the case and load work for it in my gun. Here's some pics I took during that process.....some which appear in the article linked here about Stan. The 5 shot group shown was shot on the very first range session. There's a lot more of course....but this will get you some of the basic info on it.

PS- The tag line "It'll never work" came from Randy Robinett when I sent him a picture of the fire formed case. :)

Jackie, we continued to refine the case quite a bit from when that article was done.

The short neck means it has to seal instantly so lighter loads really didn't work out. As to neck clearance, my testing showed better 200 yard results when the neck clearance got very close to zero. I still sized with a bushing for neck tension but the necks are close to a guage fit into the chamber. In firing, the neck ring ironed out a bit against the chamber and we had no issues with the pressure ring grabbing the inner neck as the base of the bullet moved through it. The base of the bullet at the 'touch point' to the rifling ended up .050 below the neck/shoulder junction. I ended up shooting my 1.00" jacket 117's at 3,210 from several different barrels.
