Short barreled 7mm

I’m wanting to rebarrel my factory 7 Rem mag but was wondering if anyone has run one with a 20-22” barrel? Doesn’t need to be a one ragged hole rifle. Going to be using it for thick brushy walks. Not looking to change calibers either I have everything I need to run a 7mag and have other rifles for long range hunting.

Thanks

Years ago someone at a gun show was selling short length take off Rem M700 sporter barrels in Weatherby cartridges. They weren't factory, but someone was cranking them out with their name on them based on the engraving.

It's been done before.

It will be loud.

Unless you are just planning to have your current 24-26" barrel (you didn't specify) chopped and recrowned, you are probably better off just taking the money you would spend and get another rifle in a short action chambering such as .308 or 7-08. There are quite a few "budget" rifles on the market today that are very accurate and will end up costing you less than a good premium barrel blank.
The Ruger American and the TC Compass are two that come to mind immediately.

I already have a blank from a previous build that got changed to a different caliber. This rifle has a lot of sentimental value to it and don’t want to replace it with another rifle. Spinning a new barrel on isn’t that much and as stated before I have other long range SA and LA rifles. Just needed info from other who may have done a short barreled mag before. Thanks

My father in law took his 7mm down to either 22 or 23" for a handier brush gun. It's a Ruger No1 and is awfully nice to lug through the trees. It is a bit louder but he doesn't regret it in the slightest.
