short barreled 6mm build help

I'm building a budget truck gun on a short post 64 win 70 action and want to get your opinion on which 6mm will do best. The barrel will be between 16.5-20 inches but will probably meet in the middle and do 18. I will be reloading and shooting 87 vmax. I want to do 6-284 since i already have dies and brass, but I'm afraid its to much powder. So i was thinking 243 or 6mm creed?
What do y'all think, and how would the 6-284 perform in such a short barrel?

It's a total waste of money to do a 6-284 (IMHO) in that short of a bbl. A 6BR, 6x45, 6x47L, 6Hagar etc would be better suited ....

forget the 6x284, i had 2 Rem 600 in 6mm rem for my sons to deer hunt with age 12 and 10 they were 18" bbl and with 100 gr and 80 gr 4895 will come close to 2900 and 3000 depending on your gun.

the action was short for the 6mm, and if i had it again i would go 243, however at the time 6mm was the only choice.

I have a 14tw and 8tw 6BR, a 20" 6TCU, a 20" 6x47L and a 26", couple of 243's and a 26" XC I have shot now for yotes for coming my 6th yr and just finished a new 24" 6XC and both are hammers! While the others are all accurate and the 14tw BR maybe a bit more accurate the XC is my go to all time favorite of the bunch. Just have all the confidence in the world with this cartridge, and all I shoot is 107SMK's, nothing fancy!

Feeding is of concern in the mod 70 for the br and some of these others,, the 243/6mm rem would be less of a problem, and you can shoot factory.
considering this to be a truck gun - thus hunting, feeding would be critical if a second shot were needed.

SDW - How fast are the 20" guns, thanks.

Very limited testing with it and 70TNT is all I have shot. It is/was a new Wilson stainless blank I bought from a GB seller in NY that is a Wilson dealer and ended up with all the leftover blanks from Winchester's Heavy Varmint run. He had/has 22/250 and 243 blanks, some roll marked for the HV and some not, all finished though. Twist is 1-10. Cut off the threads and 243 chamber and rethread for Remmy and cut 6x47L with .96fb reamer. Feel pretty stupid now after digging out 35P printouts from when I chronoed it was @ 24" and not 20". Velocity was 3410fps with 42gr of H4350 then. Sorry!

However, I shot 2 3 shot groups with and without a Gemtech HVT and it averaged .480" for the 12 shots but I didn't chrono it. Groups were better suppressed than not! It shot one of the best 3 shot groups I ever shot @ 24" also. Like .170". :) Again my bad for the false hope on 20", getting forgetful anymore :(

I think and believe the XC or 6x47L would be a better choice than 243 or 6mm @ 20". Mag feeding would be no issue either like may be encountered with the BR and offspring. Less powder, less muzzle blast and probably close to same velocity. No experience with the other 6's though!
