Short 7 PRC

Has anyone used a 7 PRC reamer with a 6.5 PRC go gauge to produce a Short PRC?

Shortened 7 PRC sizing dies could be used.

6.5 PRC brass could be used.

I say give it a shot by all means and tell us about it..Im a fan of innovation, but
unfortunately not able to peruse all my ideas due to the huge expense of developing a new cartridge for competition...I can barely do one every couple years...lol..and thats a stretch

I don’t think it work. The base of the cases is the same. If you held the 7 prc reamer that short, you would be less than the base of the brass, if your trying to use 6.5 prc brsss
Not really that much, and in some cases you'll get a better fitting
chamber. Most all my shortened 284 wild cats are just from short
stepping the reamer. One, I do have to open a bit but, only needing
paper or cratex to do it.....What I would look at is to check the dimensions
on the 7 Sherman. That reamer may be even closer for the project. Or any
other of the short Magnum reamers for short stepping. Another note when
short stepping is to make sure iit is a SAMMI reamer and not a custom.
SAMMI's will generally cut larger.

Terry.....Is the plan to just turn the 6.5 into a 7 or taking the the 6.5 cases
you plan to use and going even shorter ?? I had a discussion with a
member of shortening the 6.5 case to make a 30BR-Fat !!

I have made a 7-6.5 PRC by using a 6.5 reamer, and cleaning up the neck with my .284 Shehane reamer. I just thought that it would be easier to run my 7 PRC reamer short.

I appreciate the feedback that I am receiving.
Thanks to all!

Before there was a 260 Rem and people were shooting a 6.5 x 308. There was a guy up by you that was shooting what he called a 6.5WD. He would use a 6.5-06 improved reamer and run it in 51mm, to use 308 brass.

Eric Cortina is playing with a necked up 6.5 prc to 7mm. Check him out. Just ask someone about his tuners and they will know who he is. he calls it 7mm PRCW. you tube

Terry, the problem that you will have with your idea is that the reamer/chamber is tapered and the 'new' .200 line diameter will be to be too small be able to fit 6.5 PRC brass into the chamber.

The 6.5, 7 & 300 PRC's all have a SAAMI .200 line minimum diameter of .533. Since you are running the 7 PRC reamer in short, to achieve 6.5 PRC headspace, the diameter on the 7 PRC reamer where the 6.5 PRC .200 line would be, is only about .531

I'll check the prints. I could always finish the base with my 6.5 PRC reamer.

The 6.5 PRC is 0.002" smaller than the 7 PRC at the shoulder.

The 7 PRC reamer run 0.250" short would leave the shoulder 0.002" oversize and the base 0.002" undersize.

Not ideal, but it'd probably work for a test of concept.
