Shooting with Suppressor.

I just spent a lot of effort developing a load that shoots great out of my wife's 6x47 Lapua. 38 grains o H4350. So I decieded it was time for her to shoot it. I put a suppers or on it because it is Sunday and I don't like to disturb the area on a Sunday. Well I had some loaded at 36 grs. and some with 38 grs. The 36 grs shot ok. Actually pretty darn good, three touching and two about one inch out. She doesn't shoot a lot so I am guessing those were just her. Then she shot the "good loads". Well those were 1 1/2". So I thought that well I will shoot the load. Well they shot 1 1/2"... My question is how much do you think I will need to drop the powder charge to get back the lost accuracy?

Shooting a Berger 105 HVLD at 100 yards. It grouped lower with the suppressor than with out by about 1 1/2" at that distance. So I am thinking the velocity was increased but it could just be a change in harmonics. I am hoping some of you had the same issue and were able to just have two loads for the gun. One with and one with out the suppressor.

My velocity is usually not off by 25fps with a can on. I only ever do load development with the can on that I intend to use. They change harmonics like any other weight added to the barrel.

I have a Sako in 223 and it shoots a certain factory load into the low .3s consistently. I had it threaded without touching the crown. I then tested 4 different cans and found one of the 4 made it shoot more in the high .2s and the rest made the groups worse. Bare muzzle with just a thread protector on shot almost identical to the pre threaded barrel.

Suppressors are just a tuner to me

Steve, what you need to do is zero the rifle either with it on or off then shoot it the other way write down what the gun is telling you then dial what it is telling you and see if it goes back to the original zero you choose with it on or off.If you don’t figure it out bring it with you Saturday and I will show you what I’m talking about.

Thanks Otis... I will try to remember it and my spotting scope.

My rifles group the same with and without the suppressor. With the Suppressor on it groups about 1 7/8 " lower but the group size is the same. I can take it off, screw it back on and it shoots to the same point of impact --it is repeatable. Lots of variables to consider. Straight threads, screwed on to the same exact point, are the loads consistent etc.
