Shooting with earplugs-literally

Melt a candle on a tray and as it start to cool and solidify push some 357 or what have you brass down in them neck first. When they dry you have some nice wax bullets already loaded up for the kids to shoot at something. Guy I know made a sort of plunger out of a piece of brass and rod so now makes nice little wax bullets for the kids, with just a bit of propellant and the wax plug hand seated they are quite accurate at 15 yards and fun when the kids shoot at these foil plates hanging form something

Well, no luck with the yellow wadcutters out of the .357. I added a touch of powder and it seemed to just vaporize plug leaving part in the case.

I used the plastic .45 in my 1911 back in '80 practicing my presentation in the basement. It didnt take long for it to eat it's way through burlap.
I'd like to find some again as I'm more than rusty at the ol' IPSC game.

I tried this many years ago with a .41 Magnum revolver after reading about it in some old gun book or magazine. I melted wax, poured into a pie pan to about 1/2" deep, and left to cool. I drilled the flash holes slightly larger in 6 cases to reduce backpressure and marked the cases so they wouldn't be used for real loads. I'd push a case down into the wax, which would fit a "wax bullet". Then prime and fire.

It was a fun experiment, but the wax left the gun quite a mess that was difficult to clean. Velocity from only the primer was enough to punch through thin cardboard at short range. Plastic bullets would be cleaner.
