Shooting the Berger 153.5 LRHT in a 6.5 CM

I tested the 153.5 LRHT in my 26" Proof Research barrel (8-twist), TL3 prefit. Wasn’t sure if they’d stabilize, but it looks like they did just fine.

Ran H4350 from 39.0 to 41.4 grains. 39.0 gr gave me around 2600 fps, and 41.4 gr was just over 2700 fps. It seems like there’s still room to go higher if needed.

The lower charges seemed to shoot a bit better. That could be due to the barrel heating up, fatigue, or a slight pickup in wind later in the session.

Even at 2600 fps, I think I’m getting a wind advantage over the 140 Hybrids. Probably gaining a 0.1 MRAD advantage at 1000 yards in a 10mph crosswind. Not sure if it is worth it or not.

@Keith Glasscock is shooting them in his creedmoor for PRS now. I know that they shoot well for me at my low node of 2750 in my 260AI.

I shot those at a 600yrd match first Saturday of last month in a 6.5x47 30” 8 twist barrel 39.0 grains of H4350 .015 off the lands and shot 600 with 47x’s I’m very pleased with them

I really LIKE these Berger 153.5's in my 6.5 PRC. I've gotten excellent results with them from several different powders (e.g. N565, H4831sc, Retumbo), MV's being just under 2,900 fps. out of a 1:8 26" barrel.

Just tested the 40.5 H4530 load at 300 yards. This is an 8 shot group. MV was around 2700.

I've had a lot of luck at 40.5 4350 or 40.9 with RL16. Great summer load for me with the RL16

And the 153.5 has so far....been my favorite 6.5 bullet

I wouldn't change anything there
