Shooting "stories"

There was a guy at deer camp some years ago, standing around the campfire going on about what a great shot he had made that morning. Not only was the buck at 300 yards, he was running at full speed. Everybody groaned a little while he was telling the story. Then the guy that usually had very little to say spoke up and asked "was you aiming or shooting from the hip"? Everybody had a good laugh.

question is why do people do that? They know I shoot far don't they know I'm going to ask them a lot of questions and lead them down a road for my amusement?

My favorite is the guys who have a story that always outshines yours by a little bit every time. I call them "one uppers ". After about the second or third "one up" story, I start day dreaming really bad and just nod my head when I hear the sound of a sentence end and keep saying "oh yeah, uh huh, hmmm, cool..." as I pray for the chance to break away from the conversation. They make a new app for smart phones called "fake a call". I think I'm gonna download it for when I run into the next "one upper". :)
