Shooting Range Building

Do you guys think by putting the ventilation fan on the back wall to pull a draw in the window it would help with the mirage? If all else fails I can handle the cold just fine, it’s the 100 plus degree days in the summer I’m totally over.

As far as being able to shoot outside I currently have a bench set up that will be right beside this new build ill be leaving up and I may just add another awning off that side of the building and incorporate both of them together. I’m still trying to piece it all together in my head at this point so I appreciate the feedback.

Wedgy those pics gave me some great ideas, thanks for sharing that link!!
No, it will not help with mirage. The mirage is coming from the cold air coming in and the hot air trying to get out.

The large opening (garage door) is a great idea in thought.

The problem is, ALL of the sound will reverberate multiple times......INSIDE the room.

SMALL opening and MUST have the barrel outside of the building, as far as possible.

PS....NO MUZZLE brakes. These will break windows.

Here is a couple of pictures of the two ranges I shoot at. The closer to the opening or even past the opening you can get the muzzle the better as far as noise goes. Its not bad at al with rimfire either way but with center fire it makes a difference.

Exactly about what is causing the mirage. Obviously you haven't tried a fan, or possibly atmospheric conditions are different in your area.

No need for a fan with the setup I use. Obviously you’ve never used a mirage tube.
Do you need a picture or CAD drawing?

The knowledge you guys share here is invaluable, Thanks!

Farmerjohn I like your set up and thanks for sharing your pics, I’m going to build my reloading set up on one of the side wall somewhat like you did as well.

Hey Thumper, what are your temps like where you shoot? Highs and lows? Would seem to make a big difference in recommendations.

It’s Texas so it can be anywhere from 105 to 10 degrees, I’m mainly building it for the heat in the summer months to be able to shoot with some cold ac blowing on me. The cold days are a slight concern but I can figure out a way to overcome this one way or another.

You'll love it in the summer time.

Just outside the backdoor is a bench for pretty weather and I seldom use it, as for heat the stove is right behind my inside bench. If you build a little too big of a fire just open the back door and it will cool off. Biggest problem is if you use an FX 120 scale you have to turn the blower on the air conditioning off while you are using it.IMG_20210215_092506639.jpgIMG_20220322_155504370_HDR.jpg

I bet a switch at the bench that turned lights on at the 100 yard targets would be the icing on the cake.
It was just too much trouble to get it done, you have to go down to the shed on the left and turn it on. But if you want to get a true no wind check on a load it works. If you want to try it at the 3 or 600 yd target you take one of these work lights and get in the side by side and go down range and set it on the target and go get it when you check your target...IMG_20220322_163309893.jpg
