Shooting mat

I'd like a new prone mat for F/class. Currently using a cheap Midway special which is ok, but my biggest gripe is it has rubberized panels on top that get hot and become pools of sweat and slippery.

Don't need anything super fancy, I can cut it and sew for rear bag myself. Doesn't need to be super thick either.

Suggestions?

Best shooting mat I have is a pickup bed cover. Black Vinyl goes on the ground and I lay on the white side. Folds up nice too. 100% agree on the Midway mat.

Creedmoor sports. Get one where your rear bag is sitting on a non padded part.

No plastic covering to make ya sweat

All the moving blankets now are made from recycled plastic and they make my skin itch bad when coming in contact with them and don't leave them in the sun for any amount of time because the disintegrate in no time.

What about getting some suitable material to your liking and sewing it over the black rubberized panel or use some 3M spay adhesive or a Rubber cement to attach it. Or cut a towel to fit and velcro it over the black part.

There's 2 different types,
I'm not talking about the textile felt looking type
- but More like the type Grandma would make for your bed for the winter.
I use them for moving delicate items in the back of the truck or trailer.
They've lasted quite awhile
I only mention it because I agree how hot the mat gets when its been in the sun
I think cloth would be more forgiving over plastic or nylon
I'm gonna try this myself anyway, I guarantee it'll be better than a beach towel or tarp

Additional agreement on moving blankets like the one pictured above. There are still types available in cotton canvass. Benefits of the synthetic type is more water repelant. They've been a favorite for years.

Agree on Creedmoor mat but with one caveat...love my Creedmoor mat for match prone sling, great padding. Did not fare so well with me for a rear bag for Fclass. On any surface other than solid, stability support was a concern. But even for concrete foundation, I go to a Yoga mat. That solid cusion material is great and good stability for rear bag. Just my $.002 worth.

Does the design allow you to flip it over, putting the rubberized side down?

The Blue one is the type I was talking about. The new ones sure aren't like the old quilted moving blankets. I used to have an old one that I got from my father and it was old when I was a kid. I used to keep it behind the seat of my truck, that thing was so useful. It saved me many of times when day hunting and fishing trips into the Sierra's turned into unplanned overnight trips, as long as I had that blanket in the truck a lot of day trips turned into overnight trips.

I also use a blue mat from Creedmoor. Purchased over 20 years ago, used it for XC and F-Class. If I want to I use it with the rubber section at my feet. It's been very durable, great for prone on wet grass and IMO comfortable on concrete. I just can't bear to cut a hole in it for my rear bag, but may.......

Repels water, lighter colored rubber keeps it cooler than black rubber. Padded, but not overly thick.

Best one I have used and am still using was made by Tactical Tailor but I think they changed their design. Mine has rubberized grippy on first two sections of 6 10” sections and waterproof bottom. It folds into a 10”x 30” with buckle straps
