Joe, I am afraid that is an urban myth (http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/fact-or-fiction-nasa-spen/). My lecturer was gutted when he found out, as he always used it as an example of Ockham's razor

Pretty easy to set up notebooks, and then add notes with tags to make it very simple to go back later and pull up all your notes on a given topic, whether its bullet or powder or brass or primer or whatever you create a tag for. It's all done via the 'cloud', so if you take notes on your tablet while at the range, you can later access those same notes on your laptop or desktop or even your smart phone.
I like it quite a bit... but I don't have a good tablet (Kindle Fire - great for books, kinda 'meh' as a tablet in my opinion) so I do most of my notes either long-hand in a note book and transfer them to Evernote for filing, or update 'em via my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone.
YMMV,

Also much CHEAPER than leaving your Iphone at the range.Medic505 said:I use an app called "old guy". 8.5x11 cardstock and a orange sticky dot for a target and a Sharpie to write info on it. Take it home and hole punch it and put it in a 3 ring binder. Works every time, batteries never run out and to delete you just throw it in the trash. Section in the binder for each barrel, plus a page for round count.
