I was wanting to know if anyone knows if there is a app for a tablet that a person could use in stead of using a paper log book thanks

I'm pretty sure that you will find a similar tablet in a stationary store.

I use a regular notebook to make notes while at range. Then when I get home I take the target pictures and use Word to keep what I call "Range Report", because my memory fades but the ink persists.

You reading about guys wanting apps for their iPads reminds me of that old story about NASA spending a couple million dollars to develop a ball point pen that would write in zero gravity and then somebody suggested that they try a pencil.

Joe, I am afraid that is an urban myth (http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/fact-or-fiction-nasa-spen/). My lecturer was gutted when he found out, as he always used it as an example of Ockham's razor ;)

Correct as you may be, nonetheless it is a very good illustration of the subject at hand.

For the OP... might check out Evernote. Its available for iOS, Android, Mac OS X, Windows PC, and a web version for those of us running Linux. And its free (for the level of use most people would ever need).

Pretty easy to set up notebooks, and then add notes with tags to make it very simple to go back later and pull up all your notes on a given topic, whether its bullet or powder or brass or primer or whatever you create a tag for. It's all done via the 'cloud', so if you take notes on your tablet while at the range, you can later access those same notes on your laptop or desktop or even your smart phone.

I like it quite a bit... but I don't have a good tablet (Kindle Fire - great for books, kinda 'meh' as a tablet in my opinion) so I do most of my notes either long-hand in a note book and transfer them to Evernote for filing, or update 'em via my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone.

YMMV,

Monte

+1, Evernote is really useful since you can paste pictures directly from your phone into it as well. I use Google Sheets (Excel) to keep a range log and that's worked pretty well for me since I can build formulas, functions, etc... I supplement with Evernote though.

+1 on Evernote!!! That app is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and I used it for darn near everything. The really great thing is that it syncs between any Android phone, tablet, iPhone, computer, or you can get into it on the Web via a browser.

If you want to take target pictures you can use the document camera and then annotate them and file them in virtual cabinets with tags. Search capability is awesome. I had to have something on my pool pump fixed last year and didn't know what the doohickey was called. Instead of trying to describe to the guy at Leslies what it was and looked like, I took a picture of it in Evernote and then went into the store.

I still have access to that picture and note (as well as hundreds of others) from anywhere I happen to be. I can open Evernote on my laptop, tablet, or phone, doesn't matter, the data is all synced up and available.

Off topic, but real important, if you have a loved one as I do (my wife) who is on lots of medications, you can collect all that info in Evernote and tag is as @Emergency for example. If you ever land in the ER, you can hand your phone to the doc opened up to that note and then they have all that info right there. Best part is that you don't have to remember it anymore, and you can't forget it. All you have to do is keep it updated.

BTW, that loved one might be yourself!

Cheers!

There is an apple ap called "shotplot" that I have used in the past that allows you to track the load data, environmental applications and plot shots on numerous per loaded targets. It has limitations, but might worth a look.

I use an app called "old guy". 8.5x11 cardstock and a orange sticky dot for a target and a Sharpie to write info on it. Take it home and hole punch it and put it in a 3 ring binder. Works every time, batteries never run out and to delete you just throw it in the trash. Section in the binder for each barrel, plus a page for round count.

Also much CHEAPER than leaving your Iphone at the range.
