I dont know where you guys found 270s that dont kick. My model 70 has bruised my shoulder hit me over the eye but most of the time it was in the summer wearing a t-shirt or shooting at a weird angle. Doug

Never considered 270Win a kicker ... and most of my shooting it (M70A) was in summer with light clothes...dunno. I have friends who seem to think shotguns kick worse than CF rifles ... that also seems wack to me.

At least mine isn't as egregious as that LW Model 700 in 338 RUM, now that was like a handheld Howitzer.....

Yes the rum is, I put a limbsaver pad on mine to soften the bite,that's what I'd do if you don't want the noise of a brake.

Yes, that’s what I’ve read.
I don’t like to comment on anything unless I have actual first hand knowledge or own one. With this sled thing I don’t even know anyone who has one, and I don’t think I’ve even seen one.
That’s why I suggested research.

Any tips for shooting a 5.5 lb rifle in 270 WCF off the bench or in the field?

Mine is a custom gun but similar to a NULA in most respects, very light and petite, built like a old school Kimber rimfire or 22 Hornet

Recoil with hunting ammo will definitely get your attention, my bench game is strong but this one is more difficult to run than most of my rigs

Any hints?

There are times when I shoot cold bore shots on different range trips. I just note the temps, and barrel cleanliness, date and time. I think if the shot feels good when you fire, the results are worth considering, particularly with a hunting rifle. I verify load/zero usually with two cold bore shots once I’m satisfied with what I’ve got.

I use an Armageddon bag in the field, it’ll drape over nearly everything I’ve tried, and gives good support to shoot off. The other thing I use is a Bog tripod. I think you’ve got to let recoil flow through and not try to stop it.

I gotta agree Syncro, The .270 dont kick nothing like my Browning auto with a 3.5. Thats the kicking sob I ever shot. Doug

If I lower my seat,
and or raise my gun rest,
I can roll with recoil rather than eat it.
