Shooting F Class From A Bench

I was doing some fire forming and bullet testing today and was talking with my friend who said he shot a 1000 yard match in Sacramento from a bench because of a neck problem. He said the target was smaller than a standard F Class target. Can anyone tell me about this F Class shooting. I looked for a while at rules but couldn’t find anything. Thanks, Merry Christmas.

I believe its just something they do at a club level to accommodate shooters with injuries or age issues but its not during NRA sanctioned shoots and doesn't go towards NRA standings. I have heard of other clubs doing it also. Sacramento also does what they call F-Tactical which allows you to use a tactical rifle, or any gun with a bipod, allows you to use a brake and any caliber but again its just on a club level and you are not in any NRA standings. It allows people to come out and try the sport without having to buy a whole new setup and hopefully get more people out to try the sport.

Thanks, I had the idea it wasn’t NRA sanctioned. I am curious what target they use since my friend said it was smaller than the 1000 yard f class target. Cheers

We have a local 300 yd club that shoot either from a bench or prone on F Class targets. As stated, not NRA sanctioned, usually we go there if we want to test some loads or confirm zeros.

There are actual NRA approved ways to accommodate the use of a bench in F-Class matches using the same targets, but they're very specific and limited in their scope. That being said, lots of ranges allow just about any reasonable accommodation. Not many match directors want to exclude shooters and I've rarely seen participants complain when those accommodations are made. Most of the time, those asking for accommodations are just wanting to be part of the group, there to have fun, aren't trying to game the system and rarely pose a threat for the leaderboard anyway. For my group I'll allow anything as long as it meets the club safety guidelines.

I believe that I am correct in this statement: "If you appeal the the NRA for a waiver, backed by verifiable documentation from a doctor, you can shoot from a bench in REGISTERED NRA matches. However, you can NOT obtain a National Record even if you do shoot it, if it was shot from a bench".

I have a card last year before the crud hit, not sure what they are doing now.

I shoot Sacramento. At 1K we have a bench F Open class so more guys can come out and shoot. Anyone can shoot it as long as there are enough benches. It doesn't matter if your disabled or just want to shoot off a bench. The bench's are movable but close to 400 lbs and sometimes there are only a few set up. We only use 2 targets, F Class and sling. F Bench shoots the standard F Class target.

Like Muleystalker mentioned we also have a Tactical class you can bring your PRS or Varmint rifle out and not have to shoot in Open Class. There's no real set rules other than a bipod and muzzle brake are allowed. It's all about getting more guys or gal's out. On some days there are as many Tac shooters as Open. Tac also shoots the F Class target.

Thanks for the response. My buddy shoots bench rest so might have confused the conventional and f class target. For me getting down isn’t the problem but getting up is definitely more difficult. Glad to know there is something after laying in the dirt. Cheers

The NBRSA 1000 yard target is smaller (more difficult) than the Long Range F-Class target. Could be shot in same format as a highpower prone match...pull target each shot, place shot spotter and indicate score.
