Shooting & doping in Mirage

I have noticed on a few occasions, from either coaching or firing myself, doing height adjustment in heavy mirage the following happens;
The shot shows high - one click down, same for the next shot, one click down (regardless of 1/4 or 1/8) then after a few shots, you suddenly print way low.
Exactly the same if it shows low, then suddenly after a few adjustments, it would print very high in the 9's.
It seems to happen with any scope- I have seen this on March, NF & Sightron. So it is not a scope issue.
It is a killer when you got the wind right, but print either above or below the X.
Is this mirage that suddenly changes, and if so - what advise do you guys have?

If the sun is shining, it is constantly pushing the image you are seeing. If it remains constant and you zero in that condition, you don't have to think anymore about it.

If there is mirage, then the mirage can either add to, or cancel out the sun push depending on the flow and position of each.If light or wind conditions change then you will see that on the target.

Example: Say you zero in the morning when the light is low and behind you, or even on a cloudy morning. Then, as the day goes on, the sun gets higher and brighter. All of a sudden, the sun is now worth about a 1moa downward push. If the mirage also starts rising in a lazy 0-3 wind, it will cancel out the push and you don't have to worry about it much.

But...if the mirage comes on strong, AND the wind gets gusty and starts doing 0-5mph, then you will see your rounds going up and down constantly because the wind will be constantly changing the amount of push the mirage is counteracting.

So the advice is to keep track of the light conditions when you zero and how those conditions change throughout the day.

what you are seeing is very common. while it can occur any time, i see it most often in low winds with heavy mirage at 1k. this is one reason to avoid shooting in boils.

Ever notice how nice your elevation is in a steady cross wind?
