Shooting Clinic at Berger SW Nationals

Anyone here attended the past shooting clinics?
If so.... can I get a rundown on the class?
Did you enjoy it?
Was it held on the range?

Thanks

The clinic is well worth attending. This from the Berger web site – “The week kicks off on Tuesday with a shooting clinic. The clinic blends classroom instruction (wind reading, ballistics, equipment and position tips, etc), with live fire exercises. This clinic is run by some of the most accomplished shooters in the world, and is designed to teach new and experienced shooters alike.”

It usually starts off with Bryn Litz giving a ballistics class and question answering. Mid Tompkins gives a very informative and enjoyable wind doping class with attendee participation. Then the class is broken down into groups, sling, FO & F/TR for position tips, etc. Lunch is served and then you are given the opportunity to try out your new found knowledge on the 1k firing line. You will learn from the best in the world.

Lbart, 280man.
That's what I'm looking for!
I want to attend the class and then shoot the midrange match the following day.
I have to workout the details weather to fly or drive.
Thanks

Donny

So for the Palma Matches on Thursday and Friday we can only shoot 308 Palma guns? Or can I shoot my F-Open rig in 6.5-284??

You won't find a better deal anywhere. Great information, lunch and an afternoon of shooting for $15 bucks, you can't beat it.

You can still shoot f-open. The palma match refers to the course of fire.

I'm confused on this myself. I'm on the fence about attending part or all of the Berger Nationals. As a F-Open shooter will I be shooting every day from Tuesday-Sunday. I'm not entirely sure how many rounds to pack with me either.

This is kind of how I estimated what to bring.

Wednesday - 60 rounds plus 3 strings unlimited sighters
Thursday Palma Team or Practice - 49 plus 1 string unlimited sighters
Friday Palma - 49 plus 1 string unlimited sighters
Saturday 1K yds and Team - 62 plus 2 strings unlimited sighters
Sunday - 40 plus 2 strings unlimited sighters

I estimate 10 rounds per unlimited sighter string and bring at least 350 rounds. Probably closer to 400 even though I may not shoot that much.

(if I'm way off.. someone please correct me.. I'm prepping brass as I type. :D )

You will be if you shoot the team matches or the practices on the team match days. I am shooting both individual and team matches so I'm planning on 400 rnds +/-

Thanks, not trying to hijack. I figured my questions were in line with the OPs.

I'm still very confused as to what days would count towards my aggregate as a F-Open, Individual shooter ONLY. If I shoot Palma's course of fire does it go towards my aggregate or would it be recorded as practice only.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday are all included in the BSW LR aggregate. The Wednesday 600yd and Thursday Palma team are stand alone matches.

Take a look at the program http://www.bergerbullets.com/SW_Nationals/2016-swn-official-program.pdf note the individual agg is Match 12 which is Matches 2 & 11.

Match 2 is the individual Palma on Friday.

Match 11 consists of Matches 6 & 9.

Match 6 combines the scores from Matches 3 & 4. Both are 1k on Saturday.

Match 9 combines the scores of Matches 7 & 8. Both are 1k on Sunday.

So your scores from the individual matches on Fri, Sat & Sun make up the individual agg.

The 600 yard matches on Wednesday do not count for the agg. That is an entire separate event.

You may shoot individual practice on Thursday at 8, 9 & 1k if you are not shooting on a team.

One of the best shooters I've had the privilege to know told me once, always, always bring enough ammo.

Thanks for that tip Larry! See you in Phoenix.

Dean,

If I told you that I was wrong. I should have said, “You can never have too much ammo”. You can have too little or just enough but you can never have too much!

Till Phoenix,

Thank you much for sharing. The way the tournament falls I would either have to make the first half or second half only and with Valentines day and shift trades it will be easier for me to make the first half.

I'm still a new shooter and think I'll opt for the Wind reading class and 600 yard mini-match. I have yet to launch a round past 600 yards so that's probably in my benefit.

Just fill out the registration sheet marking the Tuesday block, include your $15 and mail it to the address provided. Show up at 8 AM for the clinic check in. Bring chair, plot sheets, spotting scope, etc. and your shooting equipment if you intend to shoot during the clinic.

I guarantee this will not be your last time at the SWN’s.

Larry,

I'm sure you stated it right, but it was a long time ago that I heard you tell the story. One thing is sure though, the lesson stuck and I've yet to run out of rounds at a match.

For those of you who are wondering what the heck we are talking about, I'll attempt to tell a short version of the story as best as I can remember. Larry, feel free to fill in the blanks.

Many moons ago, back when F-Class shooters used the same target as sling shooters, Lbart and another shooter were tied and the end of the day. A shoot off ensued and Larry won the match because the other shooter ran out of ammo. So, as Larry stated, "You can never have too much ammo". I remember that every time I load for a match.

Endyo, I see you're a fellow Texan and it's a long way to Phoenix so consider this. You can shoot Thursday as a practice round during the Palma Team day. It's great chance to get your feet wet shooting 800, 900 and 1K. Just food for thought.

BigBlueandGoldie, I wouldn't really consider the wind clinic as a beginner's clinic. There will be every level of shooter from High Masters to beginners there. It's an outstanding place to start for a newbie as some of the best shooters in the world will be there to answer your questions and work with you on a one to one basis. If you really want to be a shooter, it's the best $15 bucks you'll ever spend.
