Shooting challenge

Bench time is very valuable to improving your shooting skills.

Me and a buddy that shoot together regularly try to come up with different challenges while fun shooting/practicing.

Last week it was 4-10 shells, 308 shells and 223 shells at 75 meters with a .22lr and shooting a 1/2" piece of rebar used for a wind flag at 150meters with .22lr.

In the past it has been golf balls at various ranges, rocks at various ranges...

Anyone else come up with interesting challenges while shooting?

Ping pong balls are fun, especially because they do not move when you hit them, so you have to trust your gun.

We ( brother and I ) hanged golf balls at 330 yards and try and hit them from the get go cold bore.

He's hit it from cold bore, followed up 2 weeks later hit it again on a cold clean bore.
He writes down ALL his dope from ALL range trips for all ammunition.
He goes through his dope sheets and finds the dope shot in the same or similar conditions, dials the scope and always gets lucky.

Did this a couple years ago the day I built it at 62 yards.. Now the rack is at 50 yards and I occasionally include it as a special stage and also left up full time so everyone can try it just for the challenge.

I don't allow flat tipped ammo such as RWS since the chances do go up a bit. Real challenge with regular round nose ammo such as the Wolf MT I used. I use mainly SWFA 20x MOA-Quad scopes on nearly all my longrange rimfires.

Makes a loud "smack" sound when it's perfect and splits. If you are a few thousandths off and graze down the filed edge it still makes a smack sound but a bit softer. You'll be splitting the verticle reticle into thousandths as you hold to try and hit the edge.

My shooting partner and I practice BR a good bit. Sometimes we shoot collaborative groups for fun. The first guy will put one through the target wherever he pleases. The second guy must then try to put his bullet through the first hole, then alternate back and forth for a 5 or 6 shot group. It’s great hold off practice and quite fun because neither guy wants to be the one who blows the group.

I use my Anschutz Smallbore rifle at 200yds to simulate palma wind drift and focus on shot mechanics. The use of Rimfirea and pellet guns for training can not be stressed enough as they are lead forgiving to errors in the shot sequence and follow through. All equipment stays the same as does the course of fire as it helps prepare for when pulling the trigger is important.

Great target! What did you use for materials (especially the blade)? Can you post a close up of the target?

I've heard paint balls make cool targets.
However, I shoot benchrest rim and cf ...
I practice at the match I don't win

That is not luck. That is proper record keeping and preparation. What some call luck is really just a lot of hard work!
