Shooting Bench Umbrella

Does anyone know where you can purchase one of those umbrella set ups that clamp onto the bench to help block out the sun?

Charley Waters of the Lexington, SC area used to make a nice one, but don't know if he's still doing them. If you can contact someone in that area, they would probably know for sure. They are handy when you need them.

I can't find the address right now but I put it on here before. If you search for
it you should find it. Found it!

I bought the largest umbrella I could find at a local thrift store; in nice shape. Used a couple of nylon ties to attach a "C" Clamp to the handle, and use that to clamp it to the bench. Got about ten bucks invested and it works great.

I used two radiator hose clamps to clamp a piece of PVC pipe to a big C clamp and slid the shaft of a patio table umbrella into it and clamped the C clamp to the bench . Also used similar method to clamp a spotting scope to the bench.

If you're in an agricultural area check out farm tractor supply places for retro fit umbrellas. They are often used to shade the operator while tilling, haying, etc.

If there is any wind at all and your bench isn't super heavy it could possibly shake your bench. I used a 9' umbrella with a 2" pipe drove into the ground. Worked very well. Of course this was on my family farm so probably not an option at your local range.

Tnslim,

Our bench tops are concrete with a plywood covering, so wind is not a problem but digging into the ground next to the bench IS......thanks for the info.

If you are using it to the sun off your stuff, wouldn't that make it a parasol?
You can make your own holder to suit your needs. The possibilities are limited only by your ingenuity.

Technically, if it's used for shade it's a parasol. Used to protect against rain it's an umbrella. Same device - in a very high wind it's sometimes called a kite. ;)

I use a 1/2 pipe clamp with a 12 pipe and most of a small beach umbrella....just the top not the bottom section.
I use a hank of cord to tie it down so it does not blow away.

never shoot without it..just one more condition that is the same
