Shooting Bags

Just got a shooting bag today from a gentleman on this great website. But unfortunately for me he did the smart thing and shipped it empty. What do my fellow shooters recommend l fill it with?

Some use aquarium sand or rice.

Use sand (playground/aquarium) in the ears and "heavy sand" like listed about for the bag.

Plastic beads. They're used in bean bags for corn hole boards, other games, shooting bags, etc. Mine came from ebay.

My bag weights in around 15 lbs. It's very sturdy on the bench. Rain, dew, dampness does not bother it all.

I’ve used all of the above suggestions. It just depends how heavy you want that bag to be. For competition use the heaviest material allowed.

for sighting in a hunting rifle maybe rice or plastic beads.

Depends on the type of bag it is...

For a nice leather benchrest style bag, you want to use heavy sand.

For a hunting/tactical rifle style rear "squeeze" bag, you would want lightweight polymer beads. Polymer beads will hold form on the bag better than plain plastic beads and still provide low weight.
